Linking images on the online store

I would like to link images from different categories in my online store. For example I am selling jewellery and I have a necklace, a bracelet and a pair of earring that match and I would like my customers to be able to click on a link so they can view the 'set'. Is this possible in the new Yola?

Thanks for any help and advice

Hello A,

yes it is. You could add a link with HTML to other products.

You would need to add the image with the link into the description area of the product to do this.

You could possibly also do this with your stores product combinations/option facility but would need to think this through carefully.

Hi Gop

Do you never take a break? :-)

Sounds like a good idea but I'm not sure how to do it! Would I need to add the HTML when I am adding products within the On-line store? I have tried to add it when I am editing the store (outside of the On-line store feature), but it doesn't seem to work, therefore I am assuming that there is a feature within the store to allow you to do this.

Sorry, told you I was a complete novice at this stuff!

Many thanks yet again for your help

Hi A,

You can add HTML to your product description filed at any time. It's all done within the Store and not on the Yola side. I know this is a bit contrary but in fact the Store is a widget itself. It has been plugged in to your account and then you brought it into your site. The additions for store related stuff in fact are independent of Yola in a large sense. Sort of like a box within a box.

If you have a look at any product you have added while in the sitebuilder you will see an editing screen when you scroll down to your product description. There you will see a set of editing tools, very similar in fact to yola's text editing tools, but these are specific for your current product. You will see an HTML button or similar and this is what I suggest you use for adding images as you have mentioned with links to related products. This is heavy going as it requires an understanding of HTML.

You are going to have to create a product with the various items suggested as one single product. This will have an assigned product ID and it's to this product ID that we have to make the connection. This approach is new to me also and I presume we will hit a few bouncy walls along the way if we head along this track.

The other way to do it is to offer combination products and I haven't used this facility either so it would be a learning curve for me as well.

LOL! Thanks Gop, glad I am acting as a learning tool for you too.

I'll give it a try, luckily my husband knows HTML so can give me some clues along the way. Would you like me to share anything I find out?

Just one more thing. How can I get rid of the 'Sign in' link at the top of the page?

You can do that by changing the store's CSS. http://kb.ecwid.com/w/page/15853257/C...

I wouldn't recommend that really because it is good for returning customers or customers who place things in a "for later" basket and come back at another time to complete their purchase. There is a time limit I think it's 30 days but it's a good facility.

OK, cool. I'll go with your advice.

Am now working on the HTML stuff and have found that Dreamweaver is a good editor which is kind of doing what I want but I don't understand why the store is asking for a URL for my images. Would it be the URL of where my image appears on my site? For example SKU B44.jpg where it appears on my site? If so how do I find that piece of information?
When I put in where the image is stored on my computer all I get is an empty box and the link doesn't work properly!

Many thanks

Upload these images into your site File manager. The subsequent address will be "resources/{image-name.jpg}"

Thanks for this.

Do I need to put http:\\resources/{B44.jpg}? I have tried it with just the "resources/{image-name.jpg}" in the HTML but it returns a page not found error.

I am really sorry to keep asking what seems like stupid questions and I am really grateful for your patience and help

Apologies. The {image-name.jpg} is a generic term. You would need to use the exact name of the image that you have uploaded and saved in the File Manager.

This is a page showing a bracelet that I have loaded. I have managed to place the picture of the matching necklace onto the description field (by finding the image info and putting that into the URL field when inserting a picture using the insert picture tool). I now want to link the picture with the page where the necklace is (SKU BOM105) so that when customers click on the picture they are taken to the necklace page to view (and hopefully purchase) both items of jewellery. Everything I have tried has failed (including using the link button on the description field). Any ideas?

Thanks yet again

Well done Avogadro!

I will look at this tomorrow and get back to you here. I'll need to research/play with this to find a solution.

Oh that was very easy :)

Go to the necessary product.
Grab the URL from the address bar of your browser. It's a URL of the opened product. Use it to link your image to the relevant product.

The easiest way then to extend the HTML is to modify what you have as your image address thus:

<a href="{product URL}"><img src="resources/{image-name.jpg}"></a>

I forgot to add that if you then click on the image itself it will take you to the other product page that it is linked to.

Thanks that worked for the image, but it still doesn't link the product bracelet page to the complementing necklace page. Is there any way of doing this? This is how it looks in my mind:

Hope this makes sense. It is possible that I want the site to do too much, but it's worth asking!

Thanks for everything so far

You're right. That is too complex. I think you should have a look at combination products and see what that offers.

Thought you might say that. Will follow your advice on combining products but there is nothing that I can find on the help pages. Could you point me in the right direction?

Thanks a million, you're a star

Hi A,

Here's an Ecwid kb article on this. Hope it gets you primed :)

http://kb.ecwid.com/w/page/40532454/P...

There are others which I haven't read but if you go to ecwid.com and scoot across the option line to Help and then click on this you will get a drop down menu including forums and knowledge base I think. Just type a search into the facilty of the kb

"combination products",

there are a few posts and articles listed.
You can also go to the Ecwid Forums and click on search and ask the question there and it will bring responses on the topic for you.

Yipeeeeee!!! I found exactly what I was looking for!! There is a 'Related items' button on the products area:

I've just related a number of products which seems to work.

Thanks again for all your help, you're a genius

Hi Laura

Thanks for the reply. I can't seem to get the message to go from my email, so have had to place it here.

My site is actually now completely live. I spent the weekend finishing it off, checking it and getting feedback so that I could make any changes suggested and then published the final design.

Thanks again
