do you mean by getting google juice for linking your own site? You can get some if you have a blog or facebook page and link back to your site, but its also the influence of the site that links back to you that also effects the google juice. :) Either way, its all mysterious search engine stuff. I like to find my clients on as many outlets as possible, meet them where they are first.

Hello willyt.com

Although I am not expert on SEO matters, here is my understanding:

Link exchanges between sites are only really beneficial if they are between sites with related content.

Search engines may actually penalize you for too many links from unrelated sites.

The search engines use links to and from your site to determine whether you are an authority in your space and whether your content has value or not. As such you want other quality, related sites to link to you. The idea of a link on your site, is to point your visitors to another site that will add value for them. If you link to something they are not interested in and they click through to it, they are unlikely to return to your site.

For example if you have a site that sells clothing, it is not terribly valuable for you to get a site offering carpentry services to link to you.

So.. basically to sum it up, as long as your websites relate to one another, then it's can be helpful to link to each other.

I'm going to ask our resident SEO expert to come aboard this thread and share her insight. She's currently offline right now but she will be happy to respond when she returns.

Hello willyt.com,

Sanja gave you some great information on how to look at link building, I hope that will help!

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by a "Branding Situation", do you just mean that you have multiple websites that provide different things, but you want then under the same "Brand" of the 'Willybrand'. If you can give us a bit more information on what it is you are trying to accomplish maybe we can give you some suggestions.

hi Emmy ... thanks to you and Sanja ... Yola is very cool and I am learning tons from you fine folks. Basically what I mean by a Branding Situation is to create a parent branding site like willybrand.com which links to an online Surf, Skateboard and Ski site called willyz.com and an online T-shirt site called willyt.com - The original site will continue as a Virtual Mall set-up through an Affilliate Program and is already publihed online as
Ad Doggy.com
By creating and expanding WillyBrand ... It helps make the site more valuable as someone will have an even better idea on what willybrand could be used for.

Hello willyt.com,
Sure, you could create links from one main parent site off to other sites! It might make for a good brand. I guess I am not really versed in marketing in this manner, so might not be the best person to answer for you. Possibly some other people will have some ideas.
