Make the templates compatible with Google Custom Search so that it works with IE

Apparently there is no way to add a Google Custom Search widget to a Yola site if you want the site to work in Internet Explorer. I've tried several times. It only works with Google Chrome. Bummer! I removed the Google Custom Search widget code from my Yola site and it started working fine immediately in IE. I think it's something about Yola CSS that's not compatible with Gooogle Customer Search if viewed in IE. The code shuts the whole site off. It would not makes sense to keep the code and frustrate all those IE users. I know Yola thinks only a few people still use IE...but it's still the dominant browser in my opinion because it's what people use all day at work at most companies.

Hi Allen,

I hope that you can get this worked out. I agree as much as I prefer Chrome and FireFox over IE that IE is no a lagger in the race although it depends on which source you take the statistics from. Ranges from 50% to 15 % for IE. I don't think that Yola would miss this?

These two images of usage are taken from Wikipedia which is a measure from Wikimedia for the month of July 2012.

IE is still the most widely used browser in developed countries over-all. August??

Hello Allen,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are not aware of any issues using Google Search Widget with IE. What version of IE are you using? We currently support IE8 and IE9.

Could it possibly be another code that you have in your site that is interacting negatively with your Google Search Widget? It could also be possible that you need to upgrade your IE version, your Flash or your Java.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Hello Allen

Have you had a look at KanThaiDecor's Google Search Widget? It looks different from yours, but maybe it would be worthwhile to check if it does the same job as yours? If so, you could ask KanThaiDecor to share the link or code with you, and add the same feature to your website.

Hi,

I am in process of updating my Java to see if that has any effect. I am running IE 9 but have also tried IE 8. I suspect the problem may be that i submitted my Yola site map to Google Webmaster Tools just a few days ago, and I think maybe I need to wait some days for that to take effect before Google Custom Search will work properly on my site.

That does not explain why my Google Customer Search code works just fine on Google Chrome and Firefox. You'd think it would not work on any browsers if it was due to the Google sitemap thing. Anyhow, I will attempt to add the code again and will test in IE 8 and 9. I did look at the KanThaiDecor site and that's exactly same code i used, but I used the more vertical search field widget Google offered.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think this will be solved before long.

Also, I don't know if the KanThaiDecor site is using one of the Yola templates or was designed as a blank site from the start. It may be that the Yola templates that use more CSS code do not work well with Google Custom Search. There is some info on the Google Custom Search tool pages that mention possible conflicts will some kinds of CSS. Too complex for me. Not sure. Will keep trying. It works great for me on Google Chrome, but I need to reach large population who are still using IE 8 and 9. I estimate that's 50% of my potential vistors.
