Mask Editor not processing banner image correctly

Yesterday I created a banner image, uploaded to the file manager, clicked Change Banner, the mask editor loaded, I selected my banner image, clicked ok, and the banner image loaded properly.

Today I decided to make some changes to my banner, edited it , followed the above steps, but have not been able to successfully display the banner. I tried various things, and it seems that something is not processing correctly with the mask editor. It appears to work, but no banner appears, and there is no second compressed banner image created in the file manager either.

Any suggestions as to how I should proceed? Thanks

Sorry for being such a newbie about this -I haven't published yet... so I'm assuming the URL won't work at this point? (I just signed up and the only thing I have done is create and upload the banner.)

Hi Stephanie,
don't be so hard on yourself about being new. Everybody is new at some point. Even though you haven't published your site, it should still show up. Will you try it again please? You could have hit "cancel" by mistake (I have done it before). Also what is the format of your image? Like is it: .jpg. gif. .png or else?

Thanks lambofgod :) Well I'm assuming the url would be stephaniewalter.yolasite.com? since the title in my site is my name?

I have tried deleting and reloading the image a couple of times. It seems to upload to the file manager without problems. The file is in .png format and the banner size hasn't changed (900 x 126) from what I uploaded yesterday. I double checked the OK vs. Cancel button idea - I thought that maybe that could be the problem as well but it didn't make a difference.

Where did you get the image from? If you can could you make a copy of the image on your computer and change one of them to a .jpg For some reason I haven't had much success with .png images. They do work but they give me trouble some times.

The image is something that I created, so I could make a .jpg file. I will try uploading a .jpg instead of .png and see what happens. Thanks.

Well I tried using a .jpg file and unfortunately I had the same results. The image actually did load properly at first in the site builder - then I clicked on the file manager to see if a second compressed file had been created, and it was. Then when I closed the file manager - *poof* - the banner image in the site builder vanished. I never got it back either. Tried recreating the banner, editing the banner, deleted the .jpg and reuploaded - no results. The image shows up in the mask editor but somewhere between the mask editor and the data being transferred to the site builder seems to be the issue.

Stephanie.. what browser are you using? I wonder if this may be contributing to the problems you're having?

Also... what template are you using? I wonder if there may be a bug with a particular template. Can you try using a different template to see if this problem persists?

I am using Firefox 2.0 on my home computer, but earlier today I tried using a computer at work with Explorer. Same results.

I used the BareNecessities template.

It just seems really perplexing that yesterday everything appeared fine, and today it doesn't. I'm not sure what to think at this point. I guess I will try again tomorrow and see what happens!

A couple of things here... The Firefox 2.0 version is quite an old version. Perhaps you can try updating to a newer version. Also.. would you mind sharing your url. I know you said it is not published yet.. but if you could publish it long enough for us to take a look, then you can unpublish it again.

Hi Stephanie,

Can you try this:
1. On the page you would like to change the banner, click on "Properties" on the sidebar on the right
2. Scroll down the bar and click on button next to the space provided for the banner image.
3. A window will open asking you to choose the file you would like to use. Select the file and click on ok.

Please note that the file needs to be in the File Manager to display on the page. If you delete the file in the File Manager, it won't display on the page anymore.

If you would like us to have a look at your site, you're welcome to publish it temporarily. Click on "Publish my Site", choose the second option and publish your site to a free subdomain name.

Please let us know if you need any other help.

Hi littleus - you are right Firefox 2 is old, but unfortunately so is my computer! (so old that Firefox 3 won't work on it.. lol) I'm kind of stuck with it for the moment, but I will keep it in mind that if I encounter any further glitches, I should take a look using a different (and newer) browser and computer! :) which I did today- (different from my work computer).

Hi Marije - I decided to reselect the original BareNecessities template and reload it. Then I followed your instructions and "Voila" my banner has loaded properly!

I think the combination of suggestions did the trick -

Thanks everyone for taking the time to brainstorm and help me out, I really appreciate it.
