I want to add a member login and password to my site. I came across www.sentrylogin.com, but I wasn't sure if yola site fit the criteria to use thing - so I asked them. Their reply follows. I want to know if some one knows if the steps below are possible on Yola:

"Take a look at this, and share it with your webhost:

[Sentry System Requirements]

Sentry Login will work with any webhost and any web template (WYSIWYG)
editing suite or Content Management System that provides to you the
following:

1) Full, direct access to your website pages and their full source
code, including the space that appears before the topmost HTML tag.
You'll need to be able to paste our snippets we give you into your
files and place them up onto your website, or otherwise have the
ability to paste our snippets we give you into the pages that are
already up on your website.

2) You will also need the ability to upload files from your desktop
(or laptop) computer and place them up onto your server.

3) The server's ability to support either PHP or ASP. (Most every
server already supports at least one of those. Keep in mind, there are
millions of Webhosts out there, but there is only one Sentry.)

4) The ability to alter your file extensions from ".htm" to ".asp" or
to ".php"

If your webhost's editing program restricts you from any of the above,
use an html editor on your computer to produce your pages and upload
them to your server via FTP.

You can get the free web editing software called FirstPage here:
http://www.evrsoft.com/1stpage3.shtml

You can also just use the Notepad utility you already have on your
computer (found in: Start > Programs > Accessories). Use Notepad to
open the source code of your pages, then paste the code, and then
save.

You can get the free FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program called
Filezilla here: http://filezilla-project.org/

If electing not to use PayPal as the payment processor, Sentry will
work with any processor that lets you set with them a URL to take the
payer to upon successful payment. This URL contains an encrypted
querystring token. We provide this URL in your Sentry account.

Feel free to reply any time you have questions. When replying please
leave the subject line intact.

Regards,"

Any assistance is appreciated,

Hello batiebis01

I'm sorry, but this is not possible on Yola.

1) Because it required PHP, which isn't possible on Yola for security reasons.

2) You need to have access to the web server, which you do not.

3) You need full access to your website's HTML code and you can't edit that.

I've heard that Yola might be releasing a membership system later this year, but I am not sure if it is true, yet.

They'll post to this forum and blog if they get close to releasing it so watch the Yola Blog and this forum for a post about a members area being released! :)

I'm very sorry that this wont work out for you.

But there is an alternative that does work with Yola. It is called Authpro. It is awesome. I set it up on my site: http://my.nathansmusicstudio.cz.cc/

If you need help with setting up Authpro let me know.

Sincerely,
Nathan

Thanks Nathan. I'm setting up Authpro now. It seems simple and easy to install. Just need to play around with the login form so it's not so big on my page. Question though - when members login does it say something like "Hello [Member Name]" to confirm they've logged in? If so, does it do it automatically where the sign in was; or is it something additional you have to set-up?

@Nathan: Not sure where you read that we might be releasing the feature later this year, but we definitely do not have a date scheduled for this feature. If you could post the link to where you saw that I would be happy to clear things up.

I remember seeing one of the employees say that: They said that Yola will be releasing Membership within the Next six months. I saw it about 3 days ago but I cant quite remember where I saw it.

I can't remember where I saw it. I keep searching the Yola forum for it and I can't find it. I forgot the phrase but it was under a question about membership. (But not the one thats called "Membership")

I'll try to find it and then post a link to it.

Try searching for a member login widget in the "Widget Box Gallery"?

To display the welcome message you just have to add this to the pages that you are protecting:

<script type="text/javascript">
document.write("Welcome, "+login+". We're glad you're here!");
</script>

Lets say my username on your site is bob123 and I am logged in, it would say "Welcome, bob123. We're glad you're here!"

Isn't that neat?

But keep in mind that this has got to be added AFTER the protection code in an HTML widget.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to ask! I'm here to help!

Sincerely,
Nathan

@Monique. Thank-you as well for all your help. Maybe this belongs in the suggestions box, but I would truly recommend that Yola do what it can to get their hands on such integration. I know a little HTML coding from my Myspace days, but everyone doesn't. Even then, it took me a few weeks and consistent usage to retain what little knowledge I had. A simple and accessible tool that allow users to just click and/or drag the options they want could go a long way. A lot of people are looking for such a service - and they'd be willing to pay and become at least a silver member to get it. I know I would of.

Nevertheless, thanks to you all for your help. @Nathan, I've seen what you've did with Authpro, and it looks awesome. If I get in another jam, I'll let you know if you don't mind. I promise I'll keep my pestering to a minimum :)

Thanks again!
