I agree, it would be nice to have access to everything from one spot and Yola is great except for the few features it's lacking!

Yola should just create a Membership feature where whenever one person signs up for one of our website's, they are a user of Yola. Basically, just use the Yola system, and, have the forms and welcome codes and stuff on the pages. That should work! That's how www.webs.com website builder does it! :)

Yeah, and this would be easier to do it this way! They could probably just do it like this for a little bit, and then, when they get the actual membership feature in, with each website having it's own database. But, it would work for the mean time!

Memo to Yola: We love you! (You know that.) But you have a serious quorum of Yola users who'd like more. And some of us are willing to pay for it.

Problem 1: You give too much away for free - or even for $19.95 pa. I have a content-rich 48mb site and, as I'm not a movie producer, I can't imagine ever needing 5gb. So I have no incentive to pay for an upgraded membership. Though I'd be happy to.

Solution: create a super-membership level (Zirconium?). Charge $49.95pa per site. Bundle into it... a customizable password page (the present one is a sales killer). A unique member password and log in feature (joint venture with AuthPro?). An email capture option for our squeeze pages plus a basic autoresponder (Wufoo works fine for email capture; it just needs an autoresponder backend). More sophisticated design features eg. frames and boxes that don't need complex HTML Etc...

Build a one-stop shop of utilities that are Yola-tested, supported and compatible.

Right now, we have to outsource our plug-ins. Many of the gadgets in the sidebar are downright cheesy (eg. music plug-ins) and others don't work (eg. Twitter plug ins). I had to steal a Twitter plug in from Blogger! I'm sure Yola could create and brand its own basic plug ins, with a few tweaks of the HTML.

Support? Frankly, you folks couldn't get better. I'm constantly awed at your response times - and disgusted at the kiddies who throw a tantrum if their (free) Yola site goes down for five minutes.

Keep your wonderful services as they are. But offer an additional membership level as above - and charge us properly for it. You now have the reputation to command a premium fee. At least 10% of your user base would gratefully pay it.

Hi Nigel. Thanks for the detailed and insightful feedback on how we can improve our product for those customers who are happy to pay a bit extra for quality. So when we released "Yola Silver" I guess you could see where we are going . . . Our plans are very much in line with what you suggest - to keep offering a great free service, but to also introduce some high end packages for those customers who are really serious about taking their site to the next level. The development of these packages is taking longer than we would like, but we are trying to really do our homework and release something truly spectacular. I have passed your suggestions on to our Product team so that they can get some idea of what people like yourself need and would be prepared to pay for. Of course I am flattered by what you have to say about our support - but I can let you in on a little secret - we do plan to release a premium support offering which will include phone support as part of our packages. We will keep offering the same level of awesome free support, but phone support is really expensive so we will need to make this "premium." You will be hearing more about these plans soon!

Hey everyone! Thanks, Nathan, for the AuthPro suggestion -- I checked them out and found a couple other similar ones, including one called Wild Apricot (wildapricot.com). But, I didn't really find one that I liked. Ultimately, I wanted to add a Facebook login to my site, because I didn't want people to have to re-sign up for yet another login system. So my friend over at LaunchBit (toolkit.launchbit.com) built a simple Facebook login system that I dropped into my site. It's free and you can check it out on my site here: alps.yolasite.com

Cheers!

Thats cool! But, I think the on you found is paid and some people want free. Have you seen what I set up with Authpro? You can login here to see: http://authpro.com/auth/nathansmusics...

Login: Test

Password: Test

Make sure to capitalize the first 'T' exactly as it is because it is case sensitive.

I've been using AuthPro on my Yola site for some three months. It works well. But you do have to tweak it, ingeniously. If you want it to work with a PayPal subscription scheme. And AuthPro is NOT big on customer support - unlike Yola :)

Hi, Yury K. (from authpro) gave me a lot of codes, but, you are right, they aren't that big. Like, he gave me a code where I can put on my homepage so I can put in "Hello, username" on there when they are logged in. I set up the divs and he gave me a code where I can make a div appear when they are logged in and then disappear when they are logged out and when they are logged out, it shows a "Welcome, Quest" and it has Sign in or Register. But, when they are logged in it shows the "Hello, username" and then it has "Logout" It is cool. Also, did you see how I customized the login form? I made up a CSS style sheet and then linked to it in the "Forgot password" box. Did you notice how the forms have a slight blue glow around them when you click on it? It is like Twitter forms, just I am working on fading int he border instead of just having it appear! That will be hard to do though! Also, did you see the Edit Profile page? I created the Delete account system and it is cool because when you click Delete account you have to confirm it with a check mark then a warning appears and the delete button gets enabled. Then once you click the delete button a lightbox pops up saying the last chance and you select Yes or No. If you select no the lightbox will close and if you select yes it will remove your account. So it gives you chances. I set that up with Jquery and JavaScript.

You can login here to see these features: http:/authpro.com/auth/nathansmusicstudio

Hi Yola.
I am looking to start building my self a site dedicated to my freelance webdesign. Thus having the ability to let customers login to "their" account is a core element to the site!

Many Yola users have been waiting for this feature for what feels like years!

Does Yola plan to develop this feature in the next 4 - 5 months, If not I will have too look at a more professional hosting package, which is a pity as I have Yola silver :(

Try AuthPro. You can plug it in to any page on your Yola site or use it control access to your Home page. It gives you total subscriber control over who enters your site and also keeps out Google spiders that try to cache (ie. steal) your proprietary content.

I've been using it successfully for several months to protect one of my Yola sites that contains a lot of valuable proprietary material. Folk have to pay me to register an Authpro password before they can access the site.

It's not free but it's cheap: http://www.authpro.com/

You can see how it works by trying to access the Member area of my site at: http://www.gardeningguild.org

Nigel, actually Authpro has a free plan. I am on the Free Plan of Authpro and I built the following Member Protected System with the free one! I have the "Welcome <user>" on it and I have very, very cool edit profile forms, because they don't redirect to another page they stay on the same page and say "Your details have been updated!" and a bunch of cool effects I made using the Authpro website features and my JavaScript and jQuery knowledge. If you want any of the features on my site please do ask!

Here is the Members Area of my site: http://my.nathansmusicstudio.cz.cc/

You can either sign up or login with the Test Account (Login: Test Password: Test)

Be sure to click on Edit Profile on the side of the site and then type in any details you want and see how it works! You can even change the password if you want! (Especially if it is your account)

I put lots of time into it, and I hope you like it! But lately I haven't been working on it because I want to release my new Free Scripts & HTML Codes site next month (March) and I am really anxious to do so! I'll be sure to give everyone the URL to it when I am done!

Sincerely,
Nathan

Hi Frodo

I am on Authpro free too. What I did there is I used custom CSS and HTML and I used some CSS3. When you login, it wont say "Welcome, Guest" anymore it will say "Welcome, <YOUR NAME>" and then it will have a sign out link. I used the Authpro no redirect page protection code on my homepage so if you aren't signed in, I use JavaScript to display that message and if you are signed in I use JavaScript to display the other message.

If you would like the code for this, I will give it to you :)

Please open up a ticket in my website's help desk so I can give you the code through there so I wont have to post it here and make this topic longer than it already is. Here is my help desk: http://nathansmusicstudio.mojohelpdes...

Just click on +New Ticket on the side and type in the details.

The main reason I am asking is because the way I would currently design this is:
You can have multiple password protected pages, and by asking the user to enter their user name, click login and, this redirect the browser to their secure page, where they are asked for their user name and password.

This is a long drawn out method and the user has little control over their account. So I don't want to build my site and put all this effort into it if Yola goes and builds a membership a few months later.

The reason I may also consider a more advanced hosting solution is for SSL security for online credit card payments. Though this is something I am only interested in much later!

Authpro lets you protect an unlimited number of pages and sites. You just copy the little HTML code and put it on your pages and then, it protects your page! But if you do this, you must login on it in your browser first and then ad din the code because it will redirect in the site builder to the login page if you aren't logged into the site. If you have questions, just ask! :)

Thanks I will take a look at AuthPro.
Just would hate to do so much work, then to have Yola bring out their own membership system (which I am hoping will be more user friendly, have the Yola support behind it and secure for my clients)!

I would like to know whether Yola are going to implement this within the next 6 months?

I would really like a login system that is based on user Classes. A bit like the Moonfruit system. I previously used Moonfruit but it is rubbish compared to Yola but it did have a very good login system.

Kind Regards,

Andi

I too remember seeing this posted somewhere on the forum recently. It said in the next 6 months.

I am wondering if there is a system where you can apply user classes, this system being free and easy to install? Maybe Pigs could fly :P

Hello Ice Cream Kid,

You could try some of the following:

Google Connect: http://www.google.com/friendconnect/
Facebook: http://developers.facebook.com/docs/p...
Facebook Login: http://developers.facebook.com/docs/a...
Twitter (More complex): http://apiwiki.twitter.com/w/page/225...

These are relatively easy to install (excluding Twitter).

You could also try a login system: http://www.authpro.com

Hope these help,

Andi

Umm.. I think Yola ... must develop this thing first

Like several ppls mentions ...slight....

If this 'log in' - Id + password for those who want to be member of that site
(this membership system)

Basically, posting website is nothing that much...

Like even this site , If I want to ask/answer/post....etc... I need my id+ password
that way, one website - survives or go on

without this system, all things get messed up/ no-trust (credits)..and so on

especially, for business matter... how can people make deal ?? by asking phone?? ...it takes too much time...

on whatever reason... I think membership system is the most required options

Hello doomcao,

Thank you for your feedback. We do not provide this feature yet, but we do hope to add it in the future. I'd like to paste Monique's original response when this question was first asked, as it is an excellent explanation as to why this feature is something that will take a long time to develop.

"The more complicated aspect of this feature is going to take much longer:
the ability for people to register on your site and be assigned their own username and password. The reason for this is that we have to make it possible for each user to have their own database for their websites, and the database has to be able to "move" with them wherever they take their sites. This is not a trivial task, as you can imagine! So although we are full well aware that there is huge popular demand for this feature, building it is going to take time, and we don't have a release date yet. We don't like to make promises we can't keep, so we will let you know when we have made a lot of progress on the feature and we are nearly ready to go live with it."

Andi also made some excellent suggestions, which you might want to try.

If you would like people to contact you for business deals, you could use a Contact Form, so they can send you their details and you could respond accordingly. If you want to implement an online store, you can use the PayPal widgets to create your online store and do transactions.

I hope this helps!

How can I do this?
