Menu Question - to keep or not to keep?

I'm in a dilemma. I have created a bunch of menu buttons and pasted this code on each page - so on every page, the menu is the same.

Then, I began thinking.... if I'm on a particular page, does it look funny having that button? For example, let's say that I'm on my FAQ page, and I'll glance over to the menu and I'll see the FAQ button. But do I really need to keep that?

I know I don't NEED to keep the buttons but just wondering if it'll look better if all the menu is the same and consistent or it'll look better and make more sense to exclude the button to which the page is related?

Hi Littleus,

That is something that ultimately you will need to decide. Here's my advice (for what it's worth) have a look at website's that you admire, or that are on a similar theme to yours and see what they do? Did you notice their menus (before you were looking specifically), what is it about their menu that you like/don't like?

Personally, I'd keep all the menus the same, but that's just me. I'm sure others may have a different opinion.

Hi littleus,

It's true the current page button is redundant.

I don't think that it detracts from your page but I know the feeling. On a site that I created with button menus I did exactly as you have stated and left out the current page button. It reduces the amount of stuff on your page and frees up space if that's considered important. Go with what you feel.

Littleus, you and me are the same, we strive for perfection, if you have the time and or patience (which i know you do) then do this;

First go back to the place where you made the buttons and make a new button for each page of the 5 pages in the nav but give them a new background colour (or make them look a little different)--
then come back and change the code on each page, changing the img src of the button for the new button with the altered back ground color -- this way the link still works BUT when you look at the nav, the page your on will be a different colour.

Hope that makes sense

Lee.

i would make the button a diffrent colour and remove the link, say im on the home page,

thye home button is pink (instead of yellow) and there is no link on it and when you put your mouse over it it says, Your all ready on that page!" .

is this good?
