minus values in the margin fields - could that cause problems?

I am using a three column layout and I tried to make the middle column wider by assigning minus values in the margin fields. (I also made the two side columns shorter so that everything fits neatly.) But it doesn't display correctly in the Avant browser :( The middle column keeps its original width and the text inside looks as if cut from both sides. It displays correctly in IE 8, though.

Hi uzzer,

I understand. Sounds like cross browser stuff again.

Sort of hate to suggest this after you've gone this far but wondering if you could select another style.

A single column style this will allow the placement of a two column widget inside another two column widget. This gives you up to fur usable columns but you will only need three. You won' have to accomodate physical width of the columns with code in the same way.

Hello Uzzer,
Can you give us a link to your live page so we can take a look please.

With the Layouts it's not possible to manually set the widths; they will resize according to what is placed in them. So if you wanted to make one a column thinner you could put something wider into one of the columns which would automatically resize the other columns. Here is an example:

Because it you are not able to manually set the column widths using the various layouts, Peter's suggestion of using the two column widget in the single column layout is a good idea. The two column widget sides can be resized manually by pulling the center line to the left or right.

Hm, ok.

Any suggestions what to put there and how to make it invisible?

For the time being I put a white image (the template has white background) but the question is, is there a way to make it invisible instead of white? I am worried the template may not always show the background as white.

Hi Uzzer - you can create and add a transparent .png or .gif. However, if you're template has a white background and you don't change it, it will stay that way!

Not quite with you Uzzer.

Nothing of the template shows irrespective of colour.

Come on. What have I missed?

I think I missed something. Still not sure what though. Not important Uzzer. Marije has it sorted better than I do. :)
