Missing verification tutorial - How do I verify?

OK. I've spent all afternoon going through searches for verifying, verification, and verify and the results point me to a tutorial that doesn't exist.

Google states that the verification meta tag should be inserted after the header and before the body but neither they, nor synthasite state exactly how to access that body of text..........or am i missing something?

As for the alternative of uploading an html file, the manner in which this is done is also lost on me?

Can you please help here as I know that I am missing something simple as I did it ok with my synthasite but seem unable to do it with my newly purchased domain site.

Thanks

Hi bidkev

I am sorry that you are having a hard time with this.

In order to verify your site with Google Webmaster you need to use the meta tag option. You should copy only the long letter, number string between the quotation marks. Then in the properties sidebar of your index page, paste this code into the box marked "Google Webmaster Code." When you are done, update your site and it should be verified.

(We do have a detailed tutorial with screenshots that explains this step by step. I will check on the link for you as soon as I can but it seems like we are having network problems in our part of the world and I can't access it myself right now.)

Thank you Monique, your reply was concise and most helpful...............now all I have to do is change the code on the other 160 pages of my site! :-(

You only need to put the code on the index page - not the whole site.
