Moving my site over from geocities

Is there an easy way to move my entire website over from geocities? Do I have to do it page by page, image by image etc? I tried copying the .html and then pasting it in, but the images showed up as boxes with an "X" instead of displaying the photo. The photos had already been loaded in the File Manager.

Also can I copy all the design elements I had on the page such as backgrounds, line rules, side banners etc?

Is there a blank page I can use on styles? I didn't see one when I looked. Thanks!

Hi Francine,

No there isn't a easy way to move your site over from geocities. You should be able to copy certain html into a html widget.

Are you sure you added 'resources' to the path of the images, eg. 'resources/yourphoto.png'.

SqueakyClean, CleanSlate and NoFrills are some very minimal styles. Here is a Yola Style Guide which should help you choose the style for you.

I'm sorry Francine but most of the design elements on your old geocities style will have to be re-created, but you should be able to copy most images and backgrounds. You are not the only one coming over from GeoCities, here are a few others who asked the same question, you may find some of your other questions answered there:

Can I transfer a complete save saved form my geocities account
Can i upload pages from Geocities to Yola?

Check the html that the urls pointing to the images are correct--images in your file manager go into a file called resources so the url would be (obviously your actual names would go where "your" is)

You should be able to copy the design elements

There isn't really a blank page but there are several templates that are almost as good. I use Squeaky Clean mostly.

Hello Francine

Welcome to Yola. =)

Unfortunately, your geocities cannot be migrated into Yola. You will need to build your site using Yola tools.

Connor and Diane have given you great advice on how to recreate some of the elements you previously had on geocities.

You may also be interested in learning about Yola's recently upgraded Style editor which allows you to add your custom background image or color easily. The tutorial is called "Personalize Your Style"
