has anyone here embedded a player to play multiple tracks from music stored on their own site. I don't mean from external sites? Probably internal spiff files.

I need some help on this one.

The players that can do this generally use spiff files. (XSPF files). If anyone has experience with such files let me know.

I really need a spif file with this sort of info in it:

resources/musictrack1.mp3
resources/musictrack2.mp3
resources/musictrack3.mp3

etc.

Hey Beth,

I might have an answer for both your questions. For the comments go to http://www.disqus.com/ ..make an account there and then just copy the code to your site in a html widget.

For the visitor counter, do you mean like a stat counter for your website? If so this http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/neocounter1 could be handy, or http://www.freehitscounter.org/ for a simple hit counter.

Jason did the research for this query. Maybe he has the answer for creating the "playlist", which I called the spif file? :)

Hey Peter...

Ordinarily I would download and try a program out before sharing it but as I have no requirement for music on my website I don't see the need to try it out.

Scroll down to the "Embedding Music With Flash And XSPF Web Music Player"

http://www.boutell.com/newfaq/creatin...

OK a couple hours later and YES I downloaded it and YES it does work... (See my test site to see for your self)

http://multiple-music-tracks.synthasi...

A multi-track FLASH mp3 player

The instructions are simple enough as well. Just save the test document as a .txt
file (You will understand in the instructions)

I edited the code in the txt file to include images for each song. Just add the

Your Image URL

between location and title like I have done. The initial code only has it for the first song and yes it automatically re-sizes the images.

<!--
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<playlist version="1" xmlns = "http://xspf.org/ns/0/">
<title>My Marine Corps</title>
<trackList>
<track>
<location>http://multiple-music-tracks.synthasi...>
<image>http://www.militaryplaques.com/Seals/...>
<title>1234 United States Marine Corps</title>
</track>
<track>
<location>http://multiple-music-tracks.synthasi...>
<image>http://www.marinemusicians.org/images...>
<title>Give me that old Marine Corps sririt</title>
</track>
<track>
<location>http://multiple-music-tracks.synthasi...>
<image>http://www.pasadenanavyleague.com/alb...>
<title>Up in the morning</title>
</track>
</trackList>
</playlist>
-->

Once you play around with it you will get the hang of it...

Oh and the code to insert into an HTML widget is

<!--
<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" height="170"
data="resources/xspf_player.swf?playlist_url=resources/test.txt">
<param name="movie" value="resources/xspf_player.swf?playlist_url=resources/test.txt" />
</object>
-->

Hello Beth,

Ed has taken the time and created a useable multi track player for use on Synthasite webpages. The very first thing I would recommend is to go over to his test site and get a "feel" of the player as it looks and functions. Then come back and follow on here.

There are three important things which must be done:

(i) Upload the .swf file with your File Manager.

(ii) Upload all the .mp3 files called for by your playlist with the File Manager

(iii) Create your playlist .xspf file with Notepad and rename it "playlist.xspf". {Copy this whole file, Ctrl+C or Right click and copy with your mouse.. Drag an HTML place holder onto your page from the sidebar o where you would like your player to be located.. Paste the file into Ctrl+V or Right click and Paste with your mouse into this placeholder }

How do you find the .swf file?

You need to download this from http://www.boutell.com/xspf/ You will see the link in blue on this page. It's zip file so you need to unzip it.
The instructions for this are in http://www.boutell.com/newfaq/creatin... l "Embedding Music With Flash And XSPF Web Music Player"
Steps 1 to 3.

How do you create your playlist or XSPF file?
The easiest way is with notepad.
If you examine the file below you will see recurrences of

resources/a.mp3
songaimage.jpg
Name Of Song A

Then again:

resources/b.mp3
songbimage.jpg
Name Of Song B

What you do is recreate these four lines with the file name of each song.

XSPF Playlist creation.

(example):My Band Rocks Your Socks

{Insert that file you just created here with all the tags in place. }

Good luck Beth

I think I see. Have you inserted the word "playlist.xspf" into the HTML place holder. That's not right if you have. You must create the file and then name the file playlist.xspf then insert the file into the code where I suggested. It is complicated i know.

If you step back a bit and look at XSPF Playlist creation.
<!--?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<playlist>
<title>(example):My Band Rocks Your Socks</title>
<tracklist>
{Insert that file you just created here with all the tags in place. }
</tracklist>
</playlist-->

Look at two lines up You will see the instruction to insert the file that you must create.

OK. deep breath time.

Do you understand that you have 3 things basically to do?

1.Download the player from the web-site as mentioned in the reference?
2. Upload all your mp3 files into you resources folder
3. create a playlist file.?

OK. You have to download it. Then you have to unzip the file and locate the player as outlined in the reference. It's quite complex I know.
Lets leave it for the time being. I'll do some more work on it and get back to you in a day or so. OK?

can you send me the list and post it here. What I would like is the Title of the song and the file name of the song
so;

Title1, file1.mp3
Title2, file2.mp3
Title3, file3.mp3
.
.
.
.
Title 20, file20.mp3
etc.,

I can probably create your playlist with this information.

Hi Beth,

I would like you to click "File manager". This will take you into the "resources" file of your site. You should see the file names of each of your songs and they will look something like this {mysong.mp3}. Each song will have it's own file, no two are the same. These are the files that the music players use or an mp3 player uses to play a track.

If you can tell me how many mp3 files you have stored in "resources" that will help me a lot.

Here's a screen shot of my "resources" mp3's files.

Each one of those icons represents a separate music file and the file name is given underneath the icon. These are separate to the actual song titles. There may be some similarity but that is purely for the creators convenience. These file names are created by the studio that produces the music.

You uploaded one yesterday. You had to otherwise your music player from yesterday would not have worked.

We'll keep going with this and take it very slowly. OK?

Beth could you be a dear and create a new page of your websites and place all your songs on this new page by dragging a file widget with each song you have.

If you happen to have images for each song then use a 2-column widget with your file on one side and the image on the other...

Once you are done click update and then send us the URL of this new page... One of us will create your playlist file for you.

Beth,

I have a new idea which is like what we did the other day.
Go to your sidebar. and click widgets

Now:

select the "widgetbox"

On the RHS you will see a list "BROWSE BY TAG"
. Click Music

Go to the bottom of the new page and select Page 2

The Fourth item from the top is a player called "XSPF Music Player"
Click it and then select No to autoplay and then "Get Widget"

That will take you to another dialogue box which allows you to get the code for the player

click "Copy"

The box will change. Please close the box by clicking the X

If you go back to your builder you will see the widget code pasting box there

Paste you copied code into the square by Ctrl+V
If your code doesn;t appear then return to the XSPF Player page and try again getting the code. This sometimes happens. just repeat the process.

save your page.

Now you have your player installed.

The last thing to do is to produce your playlist and place this into the player.

later......Coffee.... !

Beth,

We will have to change this a bit after we get the playlist finished. What I wanted to show you was the player is able to be installed.

To work on the playlist I want you to have a look at the image I posted of my music files: You will notice the first one is labelled: Amarantine.mp3, the second one is: anywhere is.mp3.

I want you to make a list of these files that you have in your resources folder (File Manager). Beside each of these file names I want you to write the name of the song. like this:

File Name Song title
1. Amarantine.mp3 "Amarantine"
2. anywhere is.mp3 "Anywhere is"

and so on for the entire collection you have uploaded.

We need all of this to successfully make the playlist. The playlist is like the instruction for the player to locate the song to play. It can't work without this.
