Some have said that I shouldn't do it as it really slows down a site and others have said that MOST people find this irritating...your opinion and experience greatly appreciated.

Hmm.. good question Rizan. For me, I guess it all depends on personal preference. If the music seems to go well with the site and adds to it, rather than detract from it, then by all means - I would enjoy it.

If a person has music I don't like, I can just as easily turn off my speakers. For some, people may find having the ability to stop the music on the site beneficial.

I'd be interesting in hearing other people's opinion on this matter. I just never really thought about it before!

p.s. how's it going on the links? Did you get my email about using the other email address?

Hi Rizan,

It does all depend on personal preference I guess. The only issue comes up if someone doesn't like your "preference" in music. I have arrived at sites before that had musicI liked and let it play. I have also gotten to sites where music started right away that was totally not my type of music and my intial reaction is to use the back button. That's not to say that someone else wouldn't really enjoy it.

I would say that a good thing to do would be to allow people to choose to listen to music or not. If you set up a player where the user can choose to turn it on, than you don't loose a user who doesn't like your taste in music.

Those are my thoughts, good question!

It could work or be detrimental to your site.
I like to think I'm an eclectic when it come to music, but I often get
accused of shoving my music taste down my guest's throat.

I like a wide selection of music from jazz to death metal,(over 1000 CD's)
Personally, I would stay away from the music on your site.
Depends on the site though. Music taste is a very personal thing.

Thanks all, any input on website speed, would it slow down the loading of the site. If that is the case then I wont do it! Still up in the air, because I have been on sites that I've hated the music, then again been on sites where I re-played the tune.......humm!

Hey Rizan22,
The average Mp3 song is ± 4Mb
A web friendly image should be less than 100Kb.
You do the math!

Maybe the above statement is not that correct, Rizan.
I think the average browser will buffer the song.
You will see the site "loading" all the time after the page has loaded.
I'm not the expert, but common sense tells me it has to be slower loading.
