Hi, after pointing my Godaddy domain name to Synthasite I noticed that my domain email from Godaddy does no longer receive emails. I am able to send them, however cannot receive. Do I need to change any other settings to my Godaddy account?

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Zedex,

Please check with GoDaddy that your MX records have not changed, when you pointed your site to SynthaSite.

i'm sure you now have no MX records - Same thing happened to me - go to your DNS settings from your control panel and make sure that the MX records point towards the correct servers. Remember your A record should point at synthasite and your MX records to email servers, if they have been deleted and the field is blank you will need to get the correct IP's from Go daddy support team.

I just checked my godaddy account after my domain redirect. I checked status and I get this message

"ERROR - Hosted Domain: Need to correct or add A record"

but emails, and the site is working fine. Am I still okay? Is it just recognizing the synthasite domain as an error even though its working okay?

So your site works but you don't get email?

I think you should email synthasite support. Send them a screen shot of the error message and the DNS records.

In the mean time your DNS records should look something like this.

1. For now, have no CNAME or TXT records.

2. A RECORDS;
www --- A --- 208.75.208.172
@ --- A ---- 208.75.208.172

3. MX RECORDS
If you had email through GoDaddy (this is different to email forwarding) then you will be able to get the correct IP addresses from them for the MX records. If you didnt pay for a email service from them (and your mail was only fowarded) you will need to set up something new. Contact Godaddy and ask them for 'the mail servers IP's'

Also remember If you have an @ record set to a CNAME, all other @ records (including MX) will be ignored and set to the same domain to which it points.

DNS can be a complicated deal - like i say if you still can not get mail after reading this contact support@synthasite.com

ALSO REMEMBER - DNS CHANGES CAN TAKE A LONG TIME TO WORK
Have you tried your email today?

good luck - Lee.

Lee, thank you for your reply and yes my site works but can’t receive email since pointing to Synthasite. I can still send email, just the receiving is the problem.

1. So should I delete these records in CNAME? I have nothing in TXT.

2. In A RECORDS I only have @ 208.75.208.172. Should I also add another with www 208.75.208.172?

3. According to GoDaddy my MX RECORDS are correct. I have this email through GoDaddy not forwarding

4. I have @ in two places in CNAME, should I delete them also?

I apologies for my ignorance, all this DNS is new to me and does appear to be very complicated.

Thanks again.

I don't know what you were told when you pointed to synthasites servers. Nor do i know what your CNAME records are, thats why i'd rather you emailed synthasite, however from what i can see i would recommend this:
From what i can see your @ CNAME records are effecting your MX records.

This is the most simple set up, any CNAME additions could come after this basic set up.

1. Delete all your CNAME records, they are just an alias, you could make a record of them and add them back later if needed.
2. add a www to your A records pointing to 208.75.208.172 dont add a dot just the www is fine.
3. if your MX records are correct leave these.

This set up should work but again i don't know all the facts of your set up so its just a guess.

And remember changes are not instant.

good luck - Lee.

Hi Zedex,

DNS can be confusing, and I'm sure we can help you.

Can you let us know what is written in the MX fields? Could you also post your URL so that we can check out the settings.

Hi everyone and thank you all for contributing to solve my problem.

For now, I just notice my problem to be fixed. I can once again receive emails. However, I’m not sure what the problem was or how it was fixed. I didn’t get around to trying all the above suggestions from you all. My last correspondence was with GoDaddy whom asked to send them my bounced email and internet header of it. Well, I did that last night and all of a sudden my email works. I haven’t heard back from them just yet. I am very curious on how it was fixed.

If I find out, I will post it.

Thanks again to all of you. You are all so kind and helpful.
