Flash Content - Ok guys, First off, thanks for providing a great service with Synthasite.
However, my problem has prob been answered ten-fold on this site but ive just been going round in circles so as a last resort i thought id bug you guys.

Im trying to use a flash player, however, although i can get the player on site........ im stumped on how to add content to it. Its all from my own pc, as in not an online player. I think its something to do with xml but im really at wits end now. Any advice greatly recieved.....

Hi Atticus,

Is the problem with creating the flash file, uploading it or getting it to play on your site? I hope some of the information below will help.

Usually there is a .swf file that is needed to play the Flash on your site. You can upload it by clicking on the File Manager button and uploading the file.

Once the file has been uploaded, you can go through these steps:
1. Drag and drop an HTML widget onto the page
2. In the HTML editor that opens, paste this code:

<!--
<object width="200" height="400">
<param name="movie"value="resources/myswffile.swf">
<embed src="resources/myswffile.swf"width="200"height="400"/> </object>
-->

Replace 'myswffile.swf' with the name of your file in both places
Remember to include any folder names if you've put the file into a folder (eg. 'resources/flash/myswffile.swf')
(Ignore <!-- and --> those are there to stop the code from being interpreted)

Let us know if you need any other help.

Can you let me know which page of your site you've added it to? If you haven't, can you add it and republish your site so that we can check it out?

Hi Atticus,

Can you try this code and let me know if it works:

<!--
<object width="200" height="400">
<param name="movie" value="resources/myswffile.swf">
<embed src="resources/myswffile.swf" width="200" height="400" flashvars="file=resources/xmlfilename.xml&autostart=true">
</embed>
</object>
-->

Remember to change the filenames to your own files.

hi Atticus,

Firstly, what kind of Album are you creating? Do you want to display images that are physically located in your resources folder? Or are you adding flickr / Picasa albums?

If you are displaying images that are located in your resources folder, you need to specify them explicitly in your xml file like this:

A perfect shot of a white tiger walking in the woods
This beast scared us by giving us a really sudden shot.

Change the "image" property from c1.jpg to the name of the file you want to display.

If you are displaying Images from a rss stream, you will need need to add the feeds as mentioned in this manual:

http://www.dezinerfolio.com/system/fi...

I looked at your gallery.xml and it seems that you are missing a tag at the end of that document.

Let me know if this helps.

Sean

hi Atticus,

Appologies for the late reply, its Friday eve here where I am.

Did you add the missing tag to the end of your xml file?

You also need to completely remove the part of the file that looks something like this:

If there any other lines that relate to Picasa, Google, Fotki or Photobucket - they need to be removed too.

According to the manual - that should work.

Let me know how it goes.

Sean

hey Atticus,

No problem at all.

I read a few comments on the dfGallery website and it seems a few other people are having a tough time getting it to work correctly.

There are a few other options available if you choose to use something else:

1) Flick Slideshow. You can create your flickr account, upload your photos and embed the slideshow into your page with the HTML widget.
You can see my example here - http://seansgallery.synthasite.com/
You can find information on how to use it here - http://blog.flickr.net/2008/08/20/new...

2) You can search Google and find another flash slideshow widget that works for you. There are many out there.

3) You could paste the full xml code here and let me take a look at it, maybe I can find the issue.

Regards,
Sean
