My Site Won't Republish After The Yola Editor Crashed

I unpublished a site, trying to see if I could get my site to work without the www. in front of it.
After trying to republish my site, the Yola editor crashed.

I haven't changed any settings but now Yola won't let me republish the site saying it's not pointing to Yola. I know it is in fact pointing to Yola, because not only did I not change any settings but if you go to my site www.ebookxtreme.com it also confirms it is in fact pointing at Yola.

Before when this was Synthasite, I could publish the site even if the test failed. But now it has to pass the test to be published.

My domain provider is NameCheap which you guys offer no way to configure NameCheap domains for Yola. But this is the configuration I have it set for that has worked ever since Yola was still SynaSite.

NameCheap Configuration

@ http://www.ebookxtreme.com TYPE: URL Redirect
www hosting.synthasite.com TYPE: CNAME

Please help me get My NameCheap domain site www.ebookxtreme.com to work again.

My email is ViciouslyCold@gmail.com

Thx.

Hi Matt,

Thank you for your post - I will answer to the email you sent to Support too.

When I look up your domain's settings, I see that you have the above settings to support www.ebookxtreme.com and different settings to support http://ebookxtreme.com

Currently on Yola, you need to make sure that the settings on your domain are configured to support publishing your site with and without 'www'. When I look up ebookxtreme.com (not www.ebookxtreme.com), I see that it is pointing to 209.249.222.18. (You can check it out on this link: http://www.kloth.net/services/nslooku...)

I am going to ask one of our engineers to give you some advice on how to configure your domain because I'm not familiar with the CNAME setup (as opposed to A Records) and he should post back here soon.

Ok I saw a problem. I kept trying to enter only ebookxtreme.com because there was alread www. placed in front of the registered domain. I figured it would automatically add the www. and figured if I published my site as www.ebookxtreme.com that it would end up www.www.ebookxtreme.com

But I still have a problem that I have to type in www.ebookxtreme.com when going to my site and I can't also type in ebookxtreme.com as well. I could when Yola was Synthasite, nothing about my settings changed either.

But If you want to write an article for how to register a NameCheap domain. Just tell them to first set up url forwarding and have the @ pointing to their website and to include the www. in front of their website name [URL Redirect] and have the www. part pointed at hosting.synthasite.com [CNAME]

Just please fix the issue where we have to have the www. in front of our website to access it. if I try and access it as just ebookxtreme.com it will go to the unable to load page. Thx,

Hello Matt,
I have just tested your domain name with the www and without the www and they both work. You don't have to put the www before your domain name, if you don't, it will automatically redirect to the www version. All domains are set to go to the www version, but the non will work as well, just won't show in the browser that way.

I believe all Yola needs to do is add their own forwarding system or something to that nature. So if someone types in a site like mine as ebookxtreme.com hosted with Yola that when the page is loading it turns into www.ebookxtreme.com

That way people can access a site hosted on Yola regardless if they type www.ebookxtreme.com or ebookxtreme.com

Hi Matt,

We do have our own forwarding system for Yola - your site can have multiple domains attached to it, and they will all forward to your primary domain. For example, if you go to http://yola.tv/ (which is itself a Yola-hosted site), it will forward you to http://www.yola.tv/

The problem is, in order for us to forward your domain, your domain needs to point to our servers. While your "www.ebookxtreme.com" domain does point to our hosting, server, the main domain "ebookxtreme.com" does not: it has two DNS records which point to 209.249.222.75 and 209.249.222.76, which are not Yola servers.

In order to take advantage of Yola's forwarding, please change the DNS records for your main "ebookxtreme.com" domain so that it points to our hosting server (set the IP to 208.75.208.172). Once you've done this, it should automatically forward to www.ebookxtreme.com.

Let us know if you need any more help!

Yes just noticed atm now I don't need the www. in front. But before today it would not work without the www. in front of it which is why I unpublished my site the first time, in hopes when I republished it I could go to my site without the www. added. Still seems to load slower without the www. added but least it loads now.

I am not sure why it was not working for you before today. It should not load too much slower at all without the www, there is a 301 redirect in place so that the non www version goes to the www version, this might be the second or two delay you see, but it should really not be noticeable.

You have to make sure that your domain is pointing towards the Yola site, otherwise it wont work...

Actually the publisher is wrong a lot of times. It will say it isn't pointing to Yola when it is. I had the same problems when Yola was Synthasite. I would publish sites even when Synthasite said it wasn't pointing at Synthasite and it would work. Yola needs to bring back the option to publish the site even if the site fails the test. Don't know what possessed them to remove that option to begin with.

Hi Matt,
We need to have that check in place because many people try to publish their sites without having the domain settings properly configured to point towards Yola's ip address.

It causes a lot of confusion for people when they publish their site to a domain purchased from another entity, not knowing that it needs to be configured, and then find that it does not work.

We have found that this flow gives people the information they need to edit their domain settings if they have not yet done this at the point of publishing.

I hope this information is helpful!

Kind Regards,
Emmy

I'm having the same sort of problem with www.cawbasics.com - the url is pointing to Yola but Yola doesn't seem to think it is when I go through and try to add my own URL. Can someone please help?

Hi Jeremy,

You currently only have one A record setup and that is for - www.cawbasics.com.

Make sure you have 2 A records set up. If you would like your domain to work correctly with the "www" prefix you need to make sure that your DNS settings are configured correctly to support the "www" prefix. For this you need to set up two A-records:

* Some domain registrars require one A Record with the hostname "@" and one with the hostname "www".
* Other domain registrars allow you to create one hostname called "domain.com" and another "www" (replace "domain" with your own address).
* Both should point to our IP address: 208.75.208.172.
