All URL's must have http://. If you type our domain name without this into your address bar, your browser will add it.

The "www" prefix is superflous however, and many websites no longer use it. SynthaSite domains and subdomains work with or without the "www".

You could contact your domain name registrar to find out why your domain name does not work when you add the "www"

However, if I were you I wouldn't bother with this. See this useful article for more information: http://askbahar.wordpress.com/2008/05...

Thanks for replying. i understand that www. is no longer really needed, but i have now had this printed on all my business cards and flyers and so really need it for people to view my site

But i have managed to resolve the problem myself by changing one of the C names in my dns administration. Number 5 in the table below was previously lb1.namesco.net and i have changed this to jdp.me. NOW MY WEBSITE WORKS if i type "www.jdp.me" or just "jdp.me" into the web browser.
i'm so happy. i hope this helps others who may have encountered the same problem

...another question though... what is ftp, imap pop3 and txt. should i be changing the names of these or just leave them be?

i have a webmail account with namesco and i know pop3 is to do with mail and i'm pretty sure imap is too

host name type result

1 (blank) ----- .domain -- A ---------- 208.75.208.172

2 ftp ---------- .domain -- CNAME -- lb1.namesco.net

3 imap ------- .domain -- CNAME -- imap.namesco.net

4 pop3 ------- .domain -- CNAME -- lb1.namesco.net

5 www -------- .domain -- CNAME -- jdp.me

6 (blank)------- .domain -- TXT ------- v=spf1 mx a:smtp.hosts.co.uk a:athena.hosts.co.uk a:hermes.hosts.co.uk a:outgoing-smtp.namesco.net a:flame.hosts.ndo.com a:snowstorm.hosts.ndo.com a:tethys.hosts.ndo.com a:typhoon.hosts.ndo.com ?all

Hi jpd - you won't need to edit ftp, imap etc. These have to do with hosting your site on their servers or your email. Well done on getting your domain working!
