My current website name is not relevant enough. My competitors are all ranking high on Google search engines.
I export animal skins, porcupine quill lamps, springbok skin pillow covers and rugs etc.
My name is Exports from Africa and my competitors have names like African Game skin and African crafts market and they always outrank me.

Should I change my name to be more relevant to the items i sell like, "Skins from Africa" or "Leather from Africa" or " Hides from Africa" or " Skins Quills and Feathers " or should I just keep my current name and try to add in more relevant keywords in the description and text of my website?

Thanks for any tips.

Hello Werner,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Exports from Africa can relate to all sorts of products and I understand your desire to change the name to be more relevant.  However, having one of your keywords in your domain is only a very small aspect of many factors that are considered when trying to get a high ranking on the search engine listings.

I would suggest to update your page titles with specific keywords relevant to that page. Once you have done this make sure those keywords are repeated in the page text.

For example there are millions of websites on the Internet which makes some keyword phrases more competitive than others. There is a huge amount of competition for the keyword "Animal Skins", whereas the keyword phrase "Animal Skins for Sale" or "Animal Skins Rugs" carry far less competition.

In order to find keywords, you might want to use a free keyword research tool such as Keyword Tool.

We also have excellent tutorials to help you with your SEO, you can find  more information on getting listed for keywords and adding title, description and keywords tags in these tutorials:

Once you have updated your keywords, I'd suggest you monitor your site for a while to see if it brings in more traffic.

Please let us know how this goes and if we can assist you further.
