Navigational menu displays at the bottom not the side?

Built my new site today: http://dhva.synthasite.com based on the Essence layout. Only two pages so far, but the navigational menu bar (in grey on left) will not display correctly in IE6 or Chrome...its too narrow to display on the left and pushes up against the text in the central column. The menu page links are always at page bottom, not on the left.

It looks fine in the editor, but not when published.

Any ideas for fixing this? Much appreciated!

Terence

P.S. Synthasite is great...better than the others, like Google sites.

Hi Terence,

Did you copy and paste some text from a Word document or another external source? Doing this can bring hidden formatting issues to the page and we recommend that you first paste the text into something like Notepad and then copy and paste it into your text widget.

We apologise for this, but it's a common problem with pasting text from Word onto web-based applications and something that we're working on fixing.

The solution right now is to re-add the existing text using the above steps. If this doesn't work for you, please let us know.

Thanks for your compliment!

Marije, how did you know!? Yup, the center column of both pages (with images) are pasted from MS-Word 2003, to save time. Guess, I'll try your suggestion of using Notepad (and a lot of reformatting). How will I get my images (boxes) to display inline and wrap-around in my text boxes? Had trouble with that. Or should that be separate topic?

Still, does text formatting in the center column affect the left column width and placement? Thanks.

Hi Terence - SynthaSite Support folk have magic powers :)

When I visit your site and right-click > view source, I can see code from MS Word. This can affect all kinds of things, I can't tell you if it'll affect column width and placement until the text has been re-added.

To wrap images and text, you can either:-
1. Insert the image in the text and use a little HTML code to wrap it.
or
2. Use the two column widget and place image and text widgets inside.

Here's the code to wrap the images and text:
1. Click on your text box and then click on the HTML icon (the last icon on the text editing toolbar.
2. This will open up the HTML code view of your text. Look for the original image tag that looks like this:
<!--
<img src="resources/picture.jpg">
-->
3. Edit it as follows:
<!--
<img style="float: left;" src="resources/picture.jpg">
-->

Please ignore <!-- --> those are there to stop the code from being interpreted in this post
Make sure you don't have 'picture.jpg' that is your picture's filename
You can use left or right - whichever you prefer

Let us know if you need any other help.
