Hi,

I am trying to claim my blog on Alexa. I added the code they gave me to the first page of my site, at the bottom, as a HTML code. Apparently it did not work the way they wanted it to. I have one blog page on my site. Do you think it is suppose to go there? Here is what they said about placement

Please add the meta tag below within the head tag of your home page and try again or visit the Account page when the tag is available.

Also, I can post the code for you, but I cannot remember what to put in front and behind the code so that it shows up here. Thanks to anyone who can tell me that part

Hello Katie,

Thank you for your email. Please see this link to a thread in our forum where one of our Champs was giving information on how to do this: How do I verify with Alexa to submit my site.

I hope this helps.

Emmy,

I read everything and my problem was not addressed in the old post. My problem is that when I put the META code in it did not work for them. I did not put it on each page yet, but even one should have worked. That is why I quoted what they said to do about the headtag. I just need to know where on the page to post the META code and do I use HTML to do it? It was not talked about in the post you had me read.

First , copy their code and put it on the very top of your home page.(if you have yahoo , or bing metatags , put the code with its html widget, else use a unique html widget to put that code.

If you couldn't verify,

1.search alexa for your domain,
2. Click claim
3. Choose email verification
4. Enter an email address like you@mysite.com
5. Click on the link they send.

I am still having trouble, sorry. The e-mail option will not work for me because I have a yahoo e-mail account. I placed the code as a html at the very top of my first page but I get this from Alexa:

Sorry, we couldn't find the text file on momsfunmoney.com

Please add the text file below and try again or visit the Account page when the tag is available.

ay2d_djrXUifNhlZcWZrpKHuJh4.txt
Try Again

Upload this file to the root directory The root directory of your website is the directory where your home page is located. of momsfunmoney.com: ay2d_djrXUifNhlZcWZrpKHuJh4.txt

(Meta tags go between the opening tag and the closing tag of the HTML.)

Can you help me figure out where to put it so they read it?

You can't upload to your root directory with Yola....Why can't you use Yahoo mail? I will go to Alexa's site and have a look in case they have made some changes I don't know about.

I'm trying to do the same thing and having the same problem, Katie. I registered on Alexa and confirmed from their email link.

Then came the problem.

Their choices are
1) a meta tag,
I added their code in the first HTML Widget on the home page. Didn't work.

or, 2) text file uploaded to the root directory.
I added a text widget at the top of the home page. The test link gave me a 404 page.

I'm wondering now if we have to make a new page with just the text file on it?

I'm too tired tonight to deal with it. Hopefully someone will have it figured out by morning. :)

Hello all,

We're jumping between two threads here, but John, one of our Champs, has posted some information oh this topic on the other thread: need help adding a meta tag.

According to John he and others have had success with the email method of verification, however branded email is necessary such as katie@domainame.com. I also see that Ayesh gave some detailed instructions here for using the email verification method.

Do you have branded email to do this with? I hope this will be helpful.

John - I do not have a branded e-mail, I went to Google Apps but it says it is free for 30 days and then $50 afterwards. Do you know of any lace to get a free branded e-mail? I really wanted to be listed on Alexa and am said they are not compatible with Yola

Hi Katie,
Branded email can be gotten when you have a custom domain name. You can set up email through Google apps for this. If your domain is purchased from Yola, here are instructions for setting up email: Setting up email with Google Apps. The basic package is free. If your domain is not purchased from Yola, than you would need to contact your domain name registrar for information on setting up email with your domain.

I hope that helps,

Katie, try this link, http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/gr..., for Standard Google Apps, which is free? The first screen after you click, Get Started, asks for your domain name.

Looks like they're pushing the Premier edition more than ever, but as far as I know you can still set up Apps for free.

OK, I am creating a free e-mail, thanks everyone! But I am stuck. It says to do this:

Create a HTML verification file named googlehostedservice.html , copy the text specified below into it, and upload it to http://momsfunmoney.com/ .

googleffffffffd6a0287b

How do I do this?

Sorry I seem so helpless!

I'm just wondering... why do you want to be verified with Alexa? There's a reason I ask, for starters, it seems like you're having more problems than it's worth. Why do I say it's more problems than it's worth? Cause, what do you get out of Alexa? You get to post information on Alexa, a site very few people will view for information about your site. Do you know why people won't view it on Alexa? Because it's all written by the website owner, they can simply get that information from the website. As for Alexa ranking your website, they do that regardless if you're verified with them. So I just have to ask, is there something specific you wish to receive from Alexa? As there really isn't much benefit for verifying with Alexa!

Don, I am trying to become a member of another group and they say you have to be a member of Alexa and Technorati. I have had my site for almost 2 years with no desire to belong to either, but I guess now is the time!

There are reasons to join Alexa and you just named one...It is required by the group you are with....You will find more instances though where branded e mail is required...have you been able to get that going?

Hi Katie,
If I am correct, your domain name was not purchased from Yola. If that is the case, you would need to contact your domain registrar to find out how to set up email. With Yola you need to add a CNAME to your domain records, the HTML verification file is not possible, but I am not sure how this would be set up with your registrar so the best thing to do would be to contact them. I hope they will be able to help you!

Hi ,
it seems that you own your own domain.
In order to create a Google Apps account, you must verify that you own the entire domain.
If you have verified yoursite.com in Google webmaster tools , Google Apps skips this verification.
First , follow their instructions on setting up CNAME records.
You need to create 2 CNAME records and more than 1 MX record.

If you have problems just post it here.

Well, I give up. I am not this computer literate and I just feel like I am jumping through hoops. Thanks for those of you that tried to help. Hopefully someday Yola will be compatible with Alexa without having to have a branded e-mail.
