I am currently hosted by Yola. I have paid for hosting elsewhere and have uploaded site to that host.
I have also requested a domain name transfer to their host.
They tell me Yola need to provided me or them with some numbers for the transfer to take place, which could take up to a week.

How do I go about them hosting my site if I paid for them to do so but my site is still published under Yola? Do I have to unpublish and wait?

Help Please!

What will happen is we will send you the transfer code which you will give to your new registrar. While the transfer process is taking place, your domain name will have the same settings it has now with Yola, so you can keep your site published to the domain with Yola until the transfer goes through.

If you would like to start this process, here is a link to our tutorial with more information: Managing the domain you bought from Yola. Please look at the section for unlocking and transferring your domain.

Hi Nick

To host your site yourself:

1. Click on the drop down arrow next to the yellow "Publish my Site" button.
2. Click "Publishing Settings"
3. In the publishing settings dialog box, click the "Download site zip" button You will then be able to download your site as a zipped file and you will be given the following instructions:

Hosting with your own service provider:
Copy the site to the webroot of a php 5.2.x enabled web server
* Ensure that the "classes/work/templates_c" directory is writable by the web server (chmod 777 classes/work/templates_c on Unix / Linux boxes).
* Ensure that your host supports Sqlite3 if you have a blog on your site.

Please note that if you elect to host your site elsewhere, we can only support you with the process of creating your site, and downloading it. Thereafter all support relating to the hosting of your site will become the sole responsibility of your service provider.

The site you built will always be available in your Yola account for editing and updating even if you download your site as a zipped file and host it elsewhere. However, to put your changes live you would need to re-download your site and re-upload it to the servers of your hosting provider each time. If you host your site with us (either using a free subdomain or a domain of your own) you can update it with a single click - so it is a lot easier to make changes.

For additional detail, see: Download your Site and Host it Elsewhere

Please let me know if this does not answer your question.

Hi Sanja,

I actually mean do I need to "Un-publish" the site for it to take affect of being hosted on the other server.

I understand all that other stuff.

Do I need to "Un-publish" the site in order for the other host to "host" it?

Thank you,
I will keep it unpublished until the other host picks it up.
I am still using Yola to host my group of other sites!

Hoping someone can help?

"my domain" is registered wtih godaddy and hosted with wordpress. Now i want to have yola host "my domain". only, when i hit the "publish to web" button, it tells me i have to create an A RECORD, but doesn't allow this function in my dns settings. wordpress is not always the most speedy in answering, waiting to hear their reply... so i thought i would ask yola for some advice. any you have would be great.

Hello mml177,

If you have purchased your domain name elsewhere your domain name registrar needs to provide you with domain name management (name servers). You need to point your domain to your site by creating an A record (address record)

If you have bought your domain through a domain name registrar that does not offer domain name management you will need to make use of a service like ZoneEdit. However, you should first try to establish whether they can assist you with an A record for your domain.

Another option you have is transferring your domain to Yola so that we can take care of your DNS management. Here is more information: Transfer domain to Yola.

I hope this helps!
