New domain, new analytics code?

I'm trying to work out if I need to change/add a new analytics tracking code to my new domain name site. I've been reading past threads and they contradict one another. On one hand there I'm being told I have to, there are links that take me to a google thread which is way beyond anything I can do, asking me to add certain code in bold between stuff...? And then on the other hand I've just read, posted from employee Chris, that there is no need as the two domains/subdomains share the same cyber space (or something) and work in harmony with one another.

Which one is true and which one is false?

Hi Will,
I believe what Chris was referring to was the redirecting of a subdomain to a custom domain in this instance. When it comes to the Analytics code I am thinking that you will need to redo this as you now have a new url that needs to be tracked. But to be safe, you should visit the Google Analytics Forum and pose this question there. I am sure they will be able to give you the most accurate answer.

Kind Regards,
Emmy
