New Shipping Rates

hello

I have tried to the new shipping option that is available, but unfortunatly it does not help me at all. My rates are actually worse and I am not able to make the adjustments that I would need. For Example. If I changed to the new shipping If someone were to purchase an item from me for $2.99 they would be charged $16.00 to ship. That is not realistic for my business.

please let me know if this can be adjusted before the September due date where I would not have any option but to switch over

Thank you very much

Hello Amber,

I presume you are referring to the Online Store?

Shipping rates with this are not created by the store but rather are implemented by the user. If you can tell me your Shipping Method and details of your carrier maybe I can have a look and see what is going on. The costs of shipping are the same whatever online store facility you use as this is charged for by the shipping provider and is independent of the Store.

hello

My carrier is canada post. It has always been high, but I was able to make adjustments according to what I thought would be good prices before.

I know I won't be able to once the system is active. I have had customers state they refuse to come to the store because the shipping is so high. this is why I started putting my own adjustments in which works great for me!

Please let me know what else you need for me and i'll be happy to provide it to you!

Thanks Amber,

You mentioned a shipping price of $16.oo What weight of product is this and what is its destination and origin?

Can you tell me the web-address of your site so that I can get a look at the products and prices?

Are you using the Canada Post automatic shipping calculator? or some other method?

Do you ship overseas? If so with who?

Are you using PayPal or some other Gateway for payment?

Hey

So If I were to put in a compact mirror which is 2 grams if I were to send it here in my home town of grande prairie without my adjustment it comes to $ 14.14 with my adjustment its $2.14

If I send it say to saskatchewan with postal code s0a 2p0 its $16.64

my web address is www.midnightsattic.ca

I have not shipped over seas yet because its very expensive. and I am only using paypal for the time being.

I do believe it is the automatic calculator, but i'm not sure to be honest. sorry about that.

Thanks!!

AHi Amber,

Could you recheck your product weights and also the weight units set in your configuration. If this is the wrong weight unit like Kg or pounds then this will obviously cause an extraordinary increase in the shipping.

I went through the process and the shipping to me in Thailand by surface mail was $19.60. That really does seem very expensive. North America postage is expensive though (Can and US)

Can you just check the weight of this item in your products and then if you have access to Canada Post shipping charges just check this against the published price for an item of this weight (I bet that's fun! Probably best to give them a call?). If this balances then it is a true charge by Can Post. If it's outside this limit then either it's the parameters set in your store or a bug within the API.

First things first. Check the calculated prices against the real prices for a random small selection of goods for national post (and ?international post). Please feel free to get back to me here if you feel I can offer any help in working this out.

Hello

So I have checked with canada post regarding my issue and they said it's so high because the rates are only for parcel services not letter mail. They stated it wouldn't be so high if there was this option. Where do you think we should go from here?

Thanks

Hi Amber. Well done!

I think you have two options here.

  1. Create a Custom shipping schedule for letter mail

  2. see if there is an automatic shipping API available by Canada Post for letter mail. (I presume here that your parcels are appropriately sent by letter mail?)

I'm unfamiliar with the Can Post system and the postal Zones. Are there many postal regions in Canada?

If you are also including continental US as a regular client source then what may be appropriate is that you have two shipping schedules. Possibly the manually created schedule for Can and the automatic USPS(?) system for continental US.

Once again I would do this one step at a time. I know it's a pain but if we get this right then you can be sure that you are providing the cheapest/efficient shipping that won't be excessive.

Forgot to add: This now proves that the issue is Can Post related and is not caused by the Online Store as such. This would be the same for any online e-com store using the API for shipping.

ok no problem I will take a look at this. But will this be a problem in september when the new shipping process goes though?

will I still be able to manually change the shipping. When I talked to canada post they stated the option that are listed on the site is what they provide. Anything else they can do, but they stated yola would have to update to put that on the site. So I guess thats why i'm a little confused here. there are many regions with can post unfortunatly lol.

I will also look into usps as well.

If Can Post change their shipping charges in Sept then I can only presume that they will update their API. This is the limiting aspect. e-com sites access this API in real time, they don't make the changes as such. They simply reflect and use the info coming through from the provider (Can Post in this case).

It's kind of like the program dials up Can Post, tells them the origin, destination and weight of the package then Can Post responds with the matched cost of the shipping, the Store then plugs that shipping cost into the transaction.

The manually created schedule is tedious to create but doable. I had 1500 elemts to create a shipping schedule from Thailand as this isn't available as an API. Overwhelming I thought but you just plug away at it and it took maybe 5 days a few hours per day but got there. I saved copies everywhere. the thought of losing it was my greatest pre-occupation .
