New Site Up and Running in One Week

I just completed converting my old website which I was told was too corporate looking to my new site on Yola. I took advantage of the free domain name in Canada and picked a good template and brightened it up with the colours it used. Instead of using my company name URL - I was able to get a meaningful one for my business. I thought I would give it a try and have been very happy with the results of how easy it was to use. It is easy to maintain. I normally use a product called WebPlus which does allow a little more control - but is more for web developers and is not a SaaS CMS system. You have to understand how to FTP and upload the site. This tool is wonderful for small businesses. I am a small business consultant and will be writing a blog article and Yola and the offer for Canadian businesses. I will utilize the tool to help someone without a site as well get going.

Are there any plans or maybe something exists and didn't find it - where you could start with a blank slate and not have to find a template to modify as you can't modify some things on the templates which would be nice. I found one I did like and modified it a bit.

My new site is www.asmallbusinessconsultant.ca. I would appreciate any feedback from the "advanced users" here. I look forward to continuing to add to my site and spread the word.

Hi, Karen,

We're so glad to hear that you're enjoying Yola! We work to make Yola as easy as possible to use and it makes our day to hear when users like you create a site easily. I looked at your site and was quite impressed. A very nice, clean design. Keep up the good work.

For a blank template, we do have a few styles that come close but they are free styles which would eliminate the sub menus. Those styles are:

  1. CleanSlate

  2. BareNecessities

  3. NoFrills

  4. SqueakyClean

  5. RedPlanet (To make the style blank, create a plain white banner and upload it. You will then have what looks like a plain white page).

With Yola Silver, you can access the Site CSS to make your site even more customized. Go to Site >> Site Properties >> Site CSS Edit. We have a tutorial here: Site CSS.

Thank you Diane - I have Yola Silver. I will look at this. Am not a great CSS whiz so will play around with it a bit.

Thank you Boomer. I find this forum has been great as well and people so very helpful from both Yola and user base.

Little cheat on the week - as site already had layout designed - I ended up rewriting some of the text, I use emailmeform for forms so it goes into database and some of those forms existed from old site - some new.

I just think this one is a lot friendlier and cleaner look and was told my other was too corporate / Ernst and Young looking so small business people thought I looked expensive - so I wanted to redo quickly and Yola gave me the tools to do just that.

Over time I would like to add some borders around links on left and play with html / css a bit - but will leave that until I have more time.

Thank you for your feedback, means a lot coming from a "Champ" .

Knew you were lying about the the one week ;-) If that was a week, you should change your line of work. I'm thinking... maybe web design?

Seriously now, you've done a great job :-) I've spent the last two weeks changing a few things on one of my sites. You won't see anything, it's behind the scenes. http://www.helderberg.cc/

Wow ...your site is amazing. I would love to be able to figure out how to do some of the things you have. I will do websites for a very small business that is mostly looking for a brochure type site with forms, video, using basic Paypal....etc. and have used a U.K. based product by Serif to do it. The only difference is it allows you to lay it out with truly coding the CSS which is where I am a novice. Sometime when I have sometime - I want to play around with some of the CSS. I would like to have boxes like you do around where I have my links. When I have a lull in work - will have to spend some time figuring that out.

I not only love your site but definitely reminds me why I would love to see South Africa. Not only is your site beautiful, but your country as well.
