New Yola Features Just Released!

Many of you might have noticed that we have been busy with an upgrade for the last few hours.

Apart from the normal round of bug fixes, here is a summary of what we released today:

1) Added tools for editing text with images in the text widget. May people have requested more layout options for their text and images. Now when you add an image inside a text widget you will see 3 new icons at the end of the text editing toolbar. These allow you to select "no wrap," "wrap left" and "wrap right". This way you can have text flowing around your image without having to do any HTML editing.

Tip: make sure you have an image selected in your text widget to see these icons.

2) Security measure to prevent accidental site deletions. We were distressed to find that too many people were accidentally deleting their sites and losing their hard work. In response to your feedback we have removed the "delete site" button from the My Sites page and you will be asked to type in confirmation before deleting a site.

3) We have released a new secure payment service allowing users to use a credit card to easily purchase domain names (in addition to the current option of paying via PayPal)

Thank you for your patience during the release. We hope you enjoy creating even better looking sites with the new tools available!

More than well done.
We're all delighted to see that the site can't accidentally be deleted. The wrap around text is a great innovation.

Thank you Yola.

I feel we (my genertaon of Yola uses) have been born to early, i'd love to see a 20 years evolved version of Yola --- the mind boggles.

Hi John S,

When you go through the process, you'll see the screen below:

This is the link to Verisign: http://www.verisign.com/ssl-certificate/

This indicates that the transaction is secure.

WOW... the new text/picture wrapping... my site is filled with text and pictures, I spent most of my time arranging the text widgets to make it look good around the pictures, now I don't have to do all that!

I'm actually considering purchasing a domain sometime... just to get something straight... yola will redirect from the .synthasite domain correct? That is called a 301 direct right?

Hi Donald,

If your site is already published to a Yola subdomain, you can easily purchase your own domain when you click on 'Update my Site'. The subdomain will automatically redirect to your new address (www.example.com). This way, you won't lose the value of any links or visitors that only know your old location and they'll see your new domain.

Hi Neeraj

After you created your password page, did you hit "update". This needs to be done so that it can process your changes. After you hit update, it should come up with a password protected page on your published site.

Hi all,

Another feature that came out with this upgrade that you are sure to love, Banner Cropping!

Up until this point you have been able to change the banner image on a number of the styles, now you can also:

1. Change the image dimensions right on your page and
2. Move the image around in the banner image area

Styles that allow for banner changing now look a bit different, you have the added option to Edit Banner:

We hope you enjoy this new tool!

Could I ask if you could add
1) a table creator feature with border, background and text color control
2) An ability to add a border around test widgets, and pictures, again with background color control, an possibly also a background image capability

Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions Pablo, we will certainly pass them to the developers for consideration.
At the moment have 6 styles where you can add a background:

1. Tastelessly
2. Burlap
3. CleanSlate
4. BareNecessities
5. NoFrills
6. SqueakyClean

These styles can be found in the first 10 of the style selection (click on 'Change Style' to see the style selection).

To change your background on your page, follow these steps:

1. Click on the "Properties" tab on the sidebar on the right.
2. At the bottom of the "Properties tab", under "Background image" click on the three dots (...) to choose or upload an image.
3. Click on "OK" and the image will be added as a background to your page.

Please note that the background will apply to that specific page and not to the whole site. To remove the background image, follow the same steps above and click on the 'None' button in the image selector dialog box that opens.

Please let us know if we can help you with anything else.

Hi Maya

To access these icons, you need to go to your text widget box. Click on the image photo. Insert your photo. Then, select your photo, and you'll see the icons come up.

Hi Maya

I am really sorry. It can be awfully frustrating not to be able to do something that appears simple. I have uploaded a screenshot which I am hoping will help. Notice the following:

1) There is a text box on the page and I have clicked on it (indicated by the fact that the title bar of the text box is green.)
2) I have an image inside a text box and it is selected, indicated by the little blocks around the image.
3) The three text wrapping icons display on the far right of the text editing toolbar.

If you match these steps and the icons still do not display, please let us know so we can find out if there is a bug that is affecting you.

Hi Maya

Let's try to take this step by step, so that we don't have crossed messages or misunderstandings.

1. Drag a text widget from your "Content" on your right-hand side over to your page.

2. Click in the text widget box and you'll see the text toolbar. From there, insert your image.

3. Click on your image and a box will show up around it, as well as the toolbar again. On that toolbar, you'll see the icons.

If these steps do not work, then let us know.
