Hi all, I've created a community test website where anyone can create, test
and do pretty much what they want with. Except delete it off course.

Use it to help others get code off, or to show off design tips.
You have carte blanche ! If you upload pictures to it - please create
your own folder in the file manager. There are no rules for now !
Lets create some guidelines for its use. Input appreciated.
It's everyone's site.

The site's name: http://ourtest.yolasite.com/
The Email Address is: yolasite@gmail.com (was lucky with that one)
The Yola Password is: yolasitepassword

You can even checkout it's mail at Gmail:
Username: yolasite@gmail.com
Password: yolasitepassword

This is a good idea Boomer.

Here are a few thoughts I have:

1. I think there needs to be a moderator to monitor the site though. Will you be taking on this role?

2. How can we ensure that people don't rip off other people's stuff? (e.g. images, etc..)

3. How can we ensure that the code will stay intact? What I mean by this is: you made a code for Alex. Anyone will have access to it and may want to fiddle with it to see what their links will look like. This fiddling around may end up breaking the code if the user doesn't understand HTML or changing the look of it. So when the person whom the code was intended comes to grab the code and it doesn't work or didn't match their scheme... this may cause a lot of frustration.

My brain is a bit muddled right now.. this is all I can think of for now.

Hey Littleus,

I knew I could rely on you for the enthusiasm ;-)
I don't know where I'm going with this but the idea arose
from trying to help Alex out with the "drop-down menu"

Posting code in GS has its limitations and short of going
into somebody else's site and doing it for them, I thought
creating a general test site could work. If it doesn't take
off, so what.

1) I agree there should be a moderator (You volunteering?)
Let's vote on it. I think either you or Emmy ?

2) I think if you collaborate on the site, whatever you post
is "free for all". The code could be copied off GS anyway.
So......we need our own TOS. (come in Peter, Lee or John)

3) This is a tricky one. Generally I would first test the code
on a test page of my own to iron out all the bugs before copying
it across to the test site for the other user to grab. I would
therefore have a backup to replace it with if they broke it.

One of the concerns I have is if two or more users log into
the site at the same time. Maybe Yola can step in and prevent
this or have some way of not being able to delete this particular
site. Thats asking a lot I suppose.

Hey Boomer... you volunteering me eh? You know, I think this is a really awesome idea and it could really be helpful if there were some guidelines and people followed them. This gang in here is so very helpful with helping each other with code and you are right, being able to see it in the site as well as see how it renders would be very cool.

So I think the best thing to do right now is open it up and ask the community what types of guidelines should be implemented and how the site will function.

"open it up".... It's open already !
I'll just go with the flow (as I do most of the times) and see where it ends up.
Great Email address I got for it don't you think ?

You volunteering for the job then Emmy ? You and Littleus can arm wrestle
for the position. I'd hate to have to do Skype interviews :-)

No, I am not volunteering! You guys get it going and keep us abreast on how things materialize. I am going to share this thread with the rest of the support team and I am sure they will jump in and give their 25 cents! Again, brilliant idea, I am looking forward to where it goes.

Hi boomer,

It's a fantastic idea. Generous and probably a solution to many issues of clarity.

If people rip stuff off then they're simply thieves. I think that a reaction would be strong enough to make people who do this kind of stuff re-consider.

Mods: Anyone who has the time and interest is appropriate. Let the group call the TOS.

Thanks again Boomer.

Yola - is there a way to "pin" this thread to the top so that it's always in view? This way people don't have to try and search for this thread when wanting to use this site.

I wonder if there's a way to add more than 1 pinned note though. I've seen this on other forums where they have 4 or 5 pinned notes. It's just a thought.. maybe there isn't a way.

Thank's Littleus for the vote of confidence.

For you, who tirelessly help's others out (to quote Monique), to see the potential in this, confirms the possible need for such a thing.
Thanks to the other guy's who are willing to help out moderating it's use.

I don't think it's neccesary to pin it up for now. Let's see if it works out first.
It's an experiment! I tried to make the name (from those that were available) and login as simple as possible so that we can all remember it.

On the other hand, let's not advertise it to much. We wouldn't want some disgruntled Yola user to delete it would we! (There can't be many out there I know) ...Except for some pregnant Doc's and russian cat cartoon authors.

Great idea, Boomer! There is a definite need for this and I hope your idea takes off. We need to find a way to back up sites so they don't end up deleted, but for now let's hope that everyone treats it with due respect!

@Littleus: I have also wanted a way to "pin" a post to the top of the page permanently with links to key content such as tutorials. This is a feature request we would have to make of Get Satisfaction. Maybe one of you want to swing by their forum and ask for something like this. If not, I will try to get round to asking myself. There are some links I would like to keep in view for anyone who comes here. It would really cut down on some of the repetitive questions.

isnt there a way for yola to customize this account by like stopping the password from being changed, only admin (moderators) can delete sites
& you have your own Username password for your file manager so nobody can delete ya files.
that would make it a wonderfull & safe place to test your codes &nhost files. :)

@Alex: unfortunately not - the way the code works we could either do this for one site or for all of them. The engineering requirement is the same. So as we do not currently have this feature built, we cannot enable it for a single account. The good news is that in future we will be able to support a permission based system for site editing. However, there are some other major features we need to deliver first, so once again it is a matter of waiting.

I will definitely drop by GS and ask them about this request of pinning a post to the top. How do I get onto their forum? I've been trying but I keep ending up at the wrong spot!

The site has come in usefull the last two days helping Alex out.
I think backing up the site regularlly is the only safegaurd for now.

Appologies to everyone on GS for hijacking the forum with
this thread: http://getsatisfaction.com/yola/topic... the last 2 days. Thanks for your patience. I was waiting for someone to complain.

Thanks to whoever did the little write-up on the home page.
Was it you Littleus ?? http://ourtest.yolasite.com/

We need some way of flaging the homepage when someone is in there working on the site. Any ideas ??

How did you guess?? Yep, it was me boomer and you're welcome! =)

I have no idea of how to flag the homepage when someone is in there. Maybe by using an icon in the profile on GS? An icon that says something like "Yolasite in use?"

Hi Boomer,

Could you place a date clock and call-wall on the front page. User signs in and signs out according to the clock? Nominates the page name.

Clock is on and minichat installed. I've set the clock to GMT.
Never used minichat before. I think it opens extra lines for the number of users.

A caution:(?). If you log-off while another is on then I guess it closes the builder on the site

LU you are most welcome to do whatever you feel would be of benefit with this. Including scrapping it, replacing it with something else, I'm happy.

I have tried that a while back, but cant remember my findings.....age ;-)

It was on that thread where Sean Crotty came in on. I was trying it on my own
and had to run from one room to the next I remember. So it wasn't exactly simultaneous. We'll do the experiment some time though.

Just imagine...Canada, Thailand, UK and SA all working on one Yola site at the same time ! It'll be interesting.

User's local time is not helpful Alex. We really need it to be GMT for everyone. Otherwise we still won't know who is in and who is out.
It also needs to be available on the website so that at least two users can show up at the same time. It looks great but wonder if it will be suitable. i hope so. Thanks also Alex.

No. Not at all. nything that you like is fine for me but we also need the date and day. My local time is 01:20 Tuesday 26th. GMT is 19:20 Mon 25th.

Can you see the issue?

I added 2 new images to our yolasite. One says Yolasite is in use, and the other says, it's available. Hopefully, if we always check the link http://ourtest.yolasite.com/ before entering the site, we can tell if someone's in there.

Whoever is there, please be sure to upload the "in use" image from file manager and update site right away. Then, upon leaving, use the "available" one and update again.

Is this okay? Or too much work?

Hi LU,

Alex has the solution. The Meebo chat tells you that there's two people in. Simple. no ambiguity and very clear. It just means a simple sign in.

More than 1 can sign in at the one time.

There are a couple of issues:

Meebo chatrooms can't be used because there are problems with this utility in SA. I have chosen JS-Kit "Minichat" This will display any who have logged in.

I've also placed a 24 Hour clock there probably for the interim. It's set to GMT. It will display GMT wherever you log in from plus the day.

I suggest that we login with the time and day as displayed. This will then give us a double check of whois in . It does depend on compliancy with a sign in.
