Newly Released features!

We rolled out a new release today that includes some exciting changes to the Sitebuilder, including more help text, removal of placeholder text from published websites, an email option in the form widget, alignment options in the HTML widget, and, for some of you, a more streamlined widget interaction. Only a few randomly chosen Yola customers will see this part of the release.

For the lucky few who get the widget interaction release, when you add a widget to your page, the border around the widget disappears. This makes your workspace more closely resemble how your website will look when it’s published. To see the border again, place your mouse over the widget and the border will reappear.

The reason only a few of you will see the widget update is because we want to roll it out slowly. This is to make sure we’re headed in the right direction before we make it a more permanent thing. We’ll be taking a look at how it’s being used and listening to your feedback on our forums before releasing it to everyone. If you’re one of few who get this release, please let us know what you think in our forums. If you’re not one of the chosen ones, take heart – you’ll get it soon. It’s nothing personal, we promise.

We’re pretty excited about the changes we made in this release. We think it’s more elegant, easier to use, and will help you create better websites. Which is, of course, our ultimate goal.

OK one more thing I just saw on the new release that is something that may seem small but not to me.....The CLOSE button on preview!!!!
You have no idea how many times during site building I have clicked site builder closed when that was not my intent.

Hello,

I spotted that the column divider now has its own special edit button which loads a lightbox to edit the margin.

Was that added in this release?

Hi John - we're slowly switching from editing margins (properties) from the Properties tab to a lightbox format that you're seeing. So that is a new feature, yes :)

Hi Sanja, I like the "New Page" change and I love that when I highlight text to justify with HTML, that the type doesn't jump around trying to stabilize. I would rather have the thin dotted box when draging widgets instead of the bulky blue box but that is no biggie.

My problem is when dragging double column widgets over and trying to place one under a previous one. It wants to place it in the right column or the previous one. Very seldom does it want to place the new one underneath the previous one no matter where I place the widget. I make pages that are ten double columns high and this is a real hassle. Yola is the best free site builder!

Hi Steve - thank you for the feedback. We're going to take a look at the Column Divider Widget issue that you're reporting. Could you confirm which browser you are using?

I am using the latest Firefox...3.6.8.0 I believe for Linux and I use the Ubuntu 10.04OS. I find that now that the easiest way to drop the next Divider widget is in the right column just below where it shows it will go in that location. Even then it is a fine line and may not work. Thank you.

I also like how when we double click the text widget, a lightbox pops up and a margin measure tool thing is in the box! So we can give the text margins easier than before!

I am having a lot of trouble with some of the new features. I can't paste anything into my Google Gadget. It is harder to place things such as an empty text space, pictures etc. Once I am able to place things, I can't move them around. It is harder to highlight things.

Hi Jane. Do you know of any JavaScript, css, or html code that you put on the page? Also, what do you you mean by "it's harder to highlight things"? Do you mean it is hard to highlight text in a text widget? Also, if you can't paste anything into your Google Gadget, are you copying the stuff from one browser and switching to another? if you do that, between browsers, sometimes you can loose info you have copied. Make sure to use this to copy: Ctrl + C and this to Paste: Ctrl + V to paste something. If you let me know this information I may be able to help you better.

I hope we can get this problem fixed!

Thanks Nathan!

Jane, we definitely do want to assist you with this. In addition to the questions that Nathan asked, can I also ask what browser and version you are using? Would you be able to share with us your URL so that we can take a look and see if there is something else going on with your site that may be causing these issues?

Thank you for your patience as we work on this together.

I love this new feature. It's just as if I'm seeing it the way it looks to all who see it, without having to go to preview. Great
