Hi Guys,

Had some great help from GOP last time round but iv got another query.

I came across this page on the forum - http://forum.yola.com/yola/topics/jqu...

it gives some html to upload to get a cool looking slider on my site. Im a little bit stuck with it though.

This is what is says:
Stuff you need to change:

- The URL of your images of course (And adding more lines to add more slides)
- The URL of the gray_next.png and gray_prev.png

Ive changed the URL of where the images are but whats the other URL i need to change?

Also do i need to upload all the files to the file manager on yola?

Any help would be appreciated :)

Hi Sam,

The gray_next.png and the gray_prev.png are also images that are used for the index buttons. These need to be stored somewhere in your file manager and the address to these added in your code.

"all the files". is this referring to the images as discussed or something else?

The long code listing given goes into your Site CSS

Hi Gop,

ahh right i undertstand now about the index buttons. By all the files i meant the software files that are downloaded with for the slider.

For the URL's of the images ive used photobucket. Can this be used or do i need to upload them to my file manager and link them from there? because i looked into doing that but couldnt figure out how to get a URL for each image.

Kind Regards,

Sam

Hi Sam,

Glad I could explain this to you.

You should be able to use Photobucket for hosting your images. External hosting is very common and universal. The one point about external image hosting maybe the speed of access and of course if their servers are down you will not get the images through. I think a fairly rare issue with Photobucket(?).

There may also be authorisations required for accessing the images which generally are radio button authorisations or similar. I haven't used Photobucket so I'm really guessing on this.

Make sure you have the complete URL of each image and to get this try right clicking on each image within Photobucket and copying the url which should be available and let us know how it went.

Please get back if I have not explained everything completely.

Thanks Gop. How do i get a URL for each image if i put them on my yola file manager?

Also in regards to to the index buttons. are they the buttons that allow the user to manually scroll through the slider? and one last thing. you said the html code needs putting into my site CSS. I thought it just needed pasting into an HTML widget?

Regards,

Sam

The URL for images in the File Manager will be of the form:
resources/{optional folder}/image-name.ext

.ext typically could be jpg; gif; png

The gray buttons allow your users to scroll forward or backwards through the slides.

You can certainly place the code into an HTML widget if you don't have silver/gold. I always choose the Site CSS (silver) as this just reduces the junk for future editing and allows access if you wish to place other copies on your site on different pages.

Cheers Gop. Big Help :)

Im on with it now then. I havent got a clue how to get some buttons for the scrolling though. In the software download there is an image file called buttons and its a image with up down left and right buttons. Maybe this is it.

It would be the left and right buttons I think. I would need to see the image library and more of the setup to know for sure. If it's only one image it sounds like a sprite which is more complex???

Hi Gop,

I have got the slider working now.. iv put the URL's from yola.

Only problem is the layout of the slider. Im only using images which are half the size of the banner, which is 480x480px but when they slide across they are overlapping eachother, so on the 3rd slide i have one full image in view and a snippet of another at the side.

Any idea how to change the size of the slider and the spacing between images?

best bet is to enlarge your images Sam. Try using pixlr.com or similar to do that.

Some of these sliders work with identical size images and then you configure the aperture to fit. If there are varying sizes in width specifically you will see creeping in from the right. The aperture size configuration will be in the setup: width and height

Sometimes there is a lag also and you may get mis-alignment for the first cycle or so but then I have found that it corrects after a little while. I think this is the out of sync aspect of image loading vs the image cycling. You could also try increasing the display time to allow the images to load up before they move on(?)
