Is there any way to have a totally blank template on Yola? So I could build with HTML only?

Hi Earl

There are a few templates that allow you to change the background and the banner such as CleanSlate, No frills, Burlap, Tastelessly and Bare Necessities.

Here's a style guide:

http://www.yola.com/yola-style-guide

I hope that helps. With your knowledge of HTML, I'm sure that you will make an awesome looking site!

Hi Earl,

There are a few options if you would like a "blank" style. The following styles are plain white with background color options:

1. CleanSlate
2. BareNecessities
3. NoFrills
4. SqueakyClean
5. RedPlanet (to make the style blank, create a plain white banner and upload it. You will then have what looks like a plain white page).

These styles can be found in the first 10 of the style selection (click on 'Change Style' to see the style selection).

Hi Ruth....Any chance you would suggest a template for me? I use midnight alley because I can use the whole page.....It works great for me but a version of that with the option of using my own background would be awesome.

looking back at it, i realized thAT WHAT I WANT is a web where it is built on HTML only. this is mostly just to practice my HTML, so its not neccessary.

One of the key selling points for Yola is that you don't need to know HTML in order to create your site. If you wish to code your site from scratch, then perhaps Yola is not the best fit for your needs.

Not that we are trying to get rid of you SheepDude.

Hello Kevin,

There are a few options if you would like a "blank" style. The following styles are plain white with background color/image options:

CleanSlate
BareNecessities
NoFrills
SqueakyClean

Using a blank style option will allow you to customize it a bit!

Cheers!

Hi everyone, if you use CleanSlate, you can make a 100% blank template and add your own content and the banner space from where the banner would be wont be there! This will be done with some css! Follow these steps:

1. Choose CleanSlate for the style.

2. Drag and drop an HTML widget on the page and paste this code in:

<style type="text/css">

/*

*****************************************
CSS to make blank template
*****************************************

*/

#menu {
display:none;
visibility:hidden;
}

#sys_banner {
display:none;
visibility:hidden;
}

</style>

3. Now, you should be able to drag and drop your content over and everything will start at the top and there wont be a black space where the banner would be!

4. You'll also want to create your own menu at the very top. You can find free drop down menus and other kinds of menus on the internet. Just Google something like "free drop down menu generator" or something

I hope this helps!

Regards,
Nathan

All I want is something just like Stargazer, with its BLACK background and wide-width content, along with the option to use my own banner. Currently, Stargazer will not allow me to use my own banner. Does that exist?

i have been using Midnight for nearly two years and the enormous amount of wasted space on eilther side and narrow content space is really getting me down. It would be perfect if it had the wider width and look of Stargazer and was still able to .use my own banner.

Dear condo58

I do understand your frustration. Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the banner on Stargazer even though it is more suitable to your purposes right now.
What I can suggest, is that you select another one of our style templates that allows you to change BOTH the background as well as the heading and give you the added wider content width that you now need. You will then be able to change the background color to black, if it is not already, and you can also change the banner to whatever image you like.
Please visit the Yola Style Guide and browse through all our styles to select one that will suit you best.
I hope this helps!
If you would like any more help with this, please let us know.
Thank you
Nazlie

I have already done so and I cannot find one that suits my purposes. Any suggestions as to which one would work for me? Perhaps I am missing something. Remember, I like the look of midnight with the width of stargazer, I need a black background and my own banner.

Hello Condo58

Have you considered using SqueakyClean? You can add your own background color and then use a Picture Widget to add in your banner.

Have you tried what I posted above? It makes it 100% blank and then you can add your content! It is the 7th reply on this topic.

Hi Sanja,
That is an interesting suggestion, thank you! I am experimenting with it now and I do have two questions right off the bat. How do I change the colors of the tabs at the top, to say White so they are more visible against a black background, and two, how can I add a banner just below the tabs? I have tried adding a banner using a picture widget as you suggest, but i cannot get it in the correct position, it ends up quite a bit lower, where one normally puts content, which obviously will not do.

To clarify, it will allow me to type in a different "heading' but that is where i want the banner to be and i see no way to do that.

Figured out the white lettering on the tabs, duh on me, just chose that black squeakly clean, but i don't think its going to let me put banner in the header space.

Hi, if you want to change the color of the menu links / tabs, follow these steps:

1. Click "Edit Navigation"

2. In the "navigation Text" put in this:

<span style="color:red;font-size:14px;">NAVIGATION TEXT</span>

Change "NAVIGATION TEXT" to your actual text yo want to display. Also, you have to add this in all of the boxes for it to make all the tabs a different color.

3. Now, once you are done and you've done this for all of the pages in the navigation, it will be different colors!

4. You can see a preview by clicking "Preview" at the top and you'll see them all different colors!

I hope this helps!

Hello sunburned

I can understand how it may be confusing, but we are here to help if you have any questions ;)

Are you trying to add photos to your site? If you are, then this tutorial may help: How do I add pictures to my site?.

If you would like to change the banner, you will be able to do so on SOME styles. To check whether the style template you have chosen allows you to change the banner, go to Style > Change Style. Hover over a style template with your mouse. A thumbnail screen will pop up which will indicate whether the banner is editable. If it is, then you will be able to change the banner. For more help, please see How do I add or change the banner?

In the same place where you would check to see if the banner is editable, you will also see details about whether the background of the style you would like to use, is editable. If you are able to edit it, have a look at this tutorial: Adding a background picture.

This may also be a helpful tutorial for you to explore: Personalize your style.

Hope you are able to use this information. Let us know if you need more help!

Hi WozP,

Do you mean the margin on your menu? If so, yes, this is possible.

If you have Yola Silver, just add this code to your Site's Custom CSS: (Style>Edit Custom CSS)

.sys_navigation, .ys_menu, #menu li a {
margin: 0;
}

That code will remove the margin from the linkes. If you want the margin on the whole menu removed, just remove the li a that is right before the first bracket.

If you don't have Yola Silver, just add this code to each of your pages:

<style type="text/css">
.sys_navigation, .ys_menu, #menu li a {
margin: 0;
}
</style>

Again, if you want the margin on the whole menu removed, just remove the li a that is right before the first bracket in that code.

I hope this is helpful!

no (i don't use nav' menu's) i want to completely remove margins from my page, i don't like the wasted space at either side, i think it looks sloppy and un-professional, all i want is a completely blank page.
thanks for answering, though :)
