Hi,

Just one more thing. Here are screen shots of my website from the yolasite as I change the style of the website and the other one is the website itself as seen in Google.

They don't seem to match, do they? Why? I've already cleared the cache both on the firefox and the chrome.

Hi Joseph,

I am also a little confused by what you're seeing! When I visit the site: http://www.josepholiverostranscriptio..., I can see that the style is the "School Notes" one. When I search for your site on Google, I get the same site with the same style.

Here is a screenshot of what I can see:

Could you let me know whether the first screenshot you posted is of a Google search result? If you could also let me know when you updated your site, it will be helpful. Lastly, if you could let me know which screenshot shows the right pagethat'd also be great.

Hehehe, that's one for the books. Please note the time it's taken. That's what I'm seeing here in the Philippines.

Now, I wonder why???

Hi Joseph,

When you try to go to your site directly, do you get the correct page?

If you do, the only thing I can think of that could be causing this is that you have updated your site and style recently, and Google still has the old version cached on your side.

Could you let me know if the screenshot you have inserted is of the site you see when you type in your URL, or of the site you see when you click from a Google search?

Hi Justine,

Thanks for your prompt answer. To answer your question,

"When you try to go to your site directly, do you get the correct page?"

***** No, I'm getting the older style, not the one I want.

"If you do, the only thing I can think of that could be causing this is that you have updated your site and style recently, and Google still has the old version cached on your side."

***** Yes, it maybe.

"Could you let me know if the screenshot you have inserted is of the site you see when you type in your URL, or of the site you see when you click from a Google search?"

The URL is embedded on the URL tab of my browsers so I just put my name into it and out goes the URL of the site. However, I also did a Google search and it turned out with the old version.

I noticed that this is the case because yesterday I tried to change the website from a one column to two columns and it still shows the one column website even though I published it several times already. Then today when I opened my website, lo and behold, it's in the two column page.

Is there a one day delay in the implementation of my changes to the website?

Also sometimes, the yola sitebuilder acts up and don't change the style I want even on the sitebuilder itself even if I save it and publish it.

I don't know what's going on but it's has eaten up a considerable amount of time on my end.

That does sound confusing, and I understand it is frustrating. There generally is not any delay when updating your website. Once you publish the changes, they should go live very quickly.

I would like to investigate this further - please let me know what browser and version you are using (you did mention you use Firefox and Chrome). If you could also try typing in your URL manually and letting me know if that makes any difference to the result, and also let me know how you are searching for your site on Google (which keywords or URLs you are using), it would help.

Thanks!

My browsers are firefox version 3.6.16 and Chrome version 10.0.648.204

Typing my website's URL does not make any difference. It still shows the old style.

When I search for my website on Google, I only use my own name, which is Joseph Oliveros and the website comes up as third or fourth on Page 1.

Hi Joseph,

I have done a Google search on "Joseph Oliveros" and the screenshot below is the site I can see when I click on the link.

However, when I click on the word "cached" next to my search result:

I get this page (which looks like an older version of your site) :

I do think that the Google cached view is what is causing the problem with the different site views you are seeing.

Something I can suggest, is that you ask a friend or relative to visit your page and ask them what they can see. That will be a good way to confirm where the problem lies.

Now, I'm really confused. Here is what I found out just this minute when I searched for my website on the internet. Please note the time on the right hand lower portion of the picture.

The Home Page has the old version, but the About Me, My Service and Transcription Blog has the new version.

Why is that?

Hi Joseph,
It looks to me like there is some caching going on because I am not seeing the old version from here on any of the pages, just the new version. Can you give this 24 hours and then check again and let us know if you're still seeing the old version. I would then say ISP caching might be a possibility and the next thing to do would be to contact them. If you could, let us know in 24 hours what you are seeing.

Kind Regards,
Emmy

Hi Joseph. Emmy is offline right now so I am answering on her behalf. Based on her reply I think she has suggested that you let us know if you are still seeing the old version of your site after 24 hours. If you are then it would be a good idea to contact your ISP provider and find out what their caching rules are.

Hello,

To answer Emmy and Monique, yes, the new style is showing now from the Home page to the transcription blog page. I guess it's Google caching or my ISP caching rules that's causing this. Thanks. I'll let you know if other problem arises.

Thanks again for your help....

Hi,

Now, I'm really confused. Today when I opened my website using both the Chrome and the Firefox, the website's home page shows the old style and the other pages showing the new styles. I don't know if this is prevalent on other parts of the world, if they seeing what I'm seeing. To me it's just a little confusing.

I reported yesterday that it's okay now, that I'm seeing the new style on all the pages. I have not tweaked my sitebuilder, so I don't know why this is happening.

Hmm, I wonder if Google is playing tricks on me...

Hi Joseph,
Thank you for letting us know. This does sound like it could be a cache problem - possibly on your ISPs side. I definitely recommend contacting your ISP about this. Please keep us updated!

Hi,

Can I send you a video of what my problem with the sitebuilder is? I would appreciate it if you can provide an email to sent it to. Thanks. It's only 1.78 MB, so I think it will load in as an email attachment. It's in avi format.

Hi Sanja,

The video capturing website you provided does not work for me and if you haven't seen the video I gave you through the email I sent, then I'll just describe this here.

My problem is I can't edit my website. On the video, I showed how the sitebuilder is unresponsive to my request to change the layout of the website. It just doesn't change to any layout that's in there, whether it's 1-Column, 2-Columns or any kind of columns for that matter.

I am stuck with my website editing, so I don't know what to do, hence this video and this email.

I cleared the cache of both Firefox and Chrome. So I don't know where the problem lies.

Hi Sanja,

This is in relation to the email we had back and forth.

The fact is Screenjelly hangs on my screen for the longest time and is not responsive. I just posted the problem on the forum.

To summarize the problem, sitebuilder is not responsive to the edits I make in it, as in real time, thereby giving you that satisfaction of knowing that your edit has been made. I tried to publish it to no avail.

Also, I'm confused by the Google is showing my website. I think every other day, it shows the old style in it.

For example, Monday, Wednesday, it shows the old style in the home page, but on the other pages, the new one.

Then yesterday, Tuesday, it shows the new style on all the pages.

Now, why is that?

If it's a caching problem, at least it should have resolved itself by now since the edits had been made a while back. I'm confused....

So there are two problems:

1. Edits are not shown real time on the sitebuilder itself.
2. Google is showing different styles on every other day.

The site is http://www.josepholiverostranscriptio...

Hello Joseph

I took the liberty of going into your Sitebuilder to investigate this problem. I duplicated your index page and called it "test". I had no problems with changing the layout. I'm wondering if you need to update your Flash and your Java? Can you please try this?

As for Google, did you clear the cache and then do your search?

Hi Sanja,

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. But I just deleted the page and made it into a 2-page website to simplify it.

Now, there is one thing I noticed to the sitebuilder that I'm using. If what I'm doing is not going to work, there is this little window that says:

Another version of this page has been saved:

* Use Current Version

* Use Saved Version

* Save Your Page As..

Now, as soon as that window shows itself as I'm trying to save my work and I click OK, then it goes back as if it's not edited. Even if I hit publish directly, it shows up before it is published and lo and behold, it's not edited.

As I've told you before, I have invested considerable time and energy in making this website but to no avail. I think the latest published data is it has no content since it did not save my edited work.

But wonders of wonders, when you google it on my end, it shows a 4-page website with the old style showing at the home page, then click it to the About Me and My Services and it shows a 404 error message, but when you click on the Transcription Blog page, it show the new style.

Please, please let me know so I can put this website running again. Thanks.

I'm kinda frustrated....

Hi, Joseph,

The "Use Current Version, Use Saved Version, etc." often shows when you have more than one Sitebuilder open at once. Please make sure you have only one instance of Sitebuilder open at a time.

As far as Googling your site, this depends on what Google has in it's index. When it recrawls your site, it will see the changes made and add/change them accordingly. This is beyond our control and Google does not necessarily recrawl every page.

Finally, it looks like you have pasted text from MS Word on your site. This can create a myriad of problems with your site. The solution is to copy text into Notepad first, then copy and paste from Notepad into your site.

I hope this helps!

Sometimes sitebuilder works, but sometimes don't. That's why I had edited the website into a 2-page only website. Then boom, it doesn't work anymore up until now.

Hi Yola team,

I'm back. Sorry, but I still have another question for you. I read on a Seo forum about a W3C validation to check if there were coding errors on my site and here is the W3C validator's analysis of my site. I have 38 errors or hits.

http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=htt...

Hope you can help me with a step by step process on how to correct these.

Thanks.

Hello Joseph,

The HTML validation errors have little or no practical impact to how browsers render your site or how search engines index your content.

Here is what one of our engineers replied to a post on a similar matter with:

"Due to the nature of Yola it's quite difficult and time intensive to ensure complete HTML/CSS compliance. Traditionally we've focused more on features and work-flow than generated code quality because we felt most users weren't aware of HTML validation and would prefer more features and better work-flow to higher quality generated code and less features / worse work-flow.

That said, as former standards compliant web developers ourselves, we understand the goals of standards compliance. We get big smiles on our faces when everything validates correctly and will be placing an emphasis on fixing as many of these issues as we can in the future."

I hope this helps.
