Online database file

I've uploaded an access database to my site. When I add data via the website, the online database file reflects it until I close my browser. At that point any changes to the file made online are lost. Can someone help me?

Thanks connar,

i've already uploaded the file to the site, but it's a financial file so it's all password protected wo i'm not sure about sharing the url...

the database works fine on my computer and when i close any new data i enter stays

on the web, the data stays until i close the browser window...like if I do a bunch of updates once i've opened the file via the web, i can close the file. then i can go back to the link to it on the website and reopen the file, and all the new data is reflected in it. but, once i close the browser and reopen it/sign in, if i click the link to open the file, then, it's back to where it was before i added any data...

does this make any sense?

Hi Mindy,

I think I might be understanding you.

The thing is, when you upload an Access file to the Site Builder it won't display on the page, you can add it using the File Widget, but people will have to click on it to open it on their computer.

You won't be able to make changes to the database on the website, you would need to make changes to it on your computer, and then upload the updated version to the File Manager and put it in your site in place of the old one.

Let me know if this doesn't answer your question.

Hi Mindy,

As far as I know, you can't edit any file (live) in your recources directory.
You can only edit the file on your local PC and then replace the file in your
recources directory with the edited one.

I hope I'm understanding your problem correctly.

Thank you guys for replying :) ...that's kind of what i was afraid of. is there anyway someone could tell me (via my site) what info i need to add to the database to keep it up to date then? - like could they post it to a board there, where i can periodically add to my pc's db and then delete off the board so it's not accessible to all?

Hi Mindy

One consideration you may want to explore is using Google Docs or Nabble.

The only way they could post it to a "board" would be through a forum on your website (like nabble, which I have no experience with) or via a customised contact form. The latter would be more private.

i haven't heard of nabble, but googledocs won't let me upload access databases...at least i couldn't get it to. thanks, though. guess now i'm just trying to find a way to let someone else post to my site

i'll look up nabble, too, but am really impressed with yola so far

boomer, thanks for the info about forms...i think i'm going to try doing that. to do that should i use wufoo form, form assembly, something else? i'm totally new to this and don't even know what those things are!

preciate the help all

Hi Mindy,
It really isn't possible for people to add directly to your site as everything needs to be added from inside the Site Builder. If you are wanting people to submit information to you, I would also suggest, as Boomer did, a Contact Form a this would be more private.

Here is some information on adding a contact form: Adding a Wufoo Form and Adding a Form Assembly Form. I hope this will help, let us know if you have further questions.
