I have made an online store on my site and fiddled with it a few times. Is there anyway to condense the white spaces around the text and the photos? I would like to make it look a lot neater. Can i use an app for an online store from somewhere else and add it to my yola site?
I love working on my site and i love the fact that you can teach yourself thankyou paloma australia

Hello Paloma,
First, I am so happy to hear you are enjoying learning as you go and teaching yourself how to build your site, that is such a fun part of the process, learning something new :)

Next, although the Ecommerce Widget in Yola cannot be adjusted to remove the white space etc, what you can do is create your own buttons at PayPal and then arrange your products in any way you would like on your site, then add the PayPal button using HTML code.

What I would suggest is that you utilize the Column Divider Widget to create your product layout. What you can do is drag the Column Divider Widget onto the page and add Text Widgets to either side with product title and/or description, add a Picture Widget with your product image, then add the HTML Widget and paste your PayPal button code into it. The Widgets can be arranged in the Column Divider Widget in whatever way you would like, such as Picture Widget and Text Widget on one side, and HTML Widget with the PayPal button on the other etc. You can then add another Column Divider Widget beneath the first one and create the same layout for your succeeding products. Using the Column Divider Widget allows you so much freedom in how you arrange things.

Here is a link with more information on: Customizing your PayPal buttons.

I hope this information is helpful and that you continue to enjoy building your site!

Kind Regards,
Emmy

Paloma,

There are very few free apps for use as a facility for building an e-commerce store. The best I have found is ecwid.com.

ecwid allows you to use CSS to vary the appearance of the store catalog. They allow PayPal and Google Checkout con-currently or indivividually and other gateway payment suppliers. It works well with Yola.

The production of a grid with reduced white space is an easy task and the result is consistent. It does however require a fair understanding of CSS for the styling. ecwid also offers two other display types which your user can choose. An image listing with descriptions, which is a horizonatal listing one product per line effect or even a non-graphical description of products.

ecwid is free for a product catalog of less than 200 items. $19 per month for a catalog of 200 or more items. Another benefit I enjoyed was bulk uploading of products from a text file produced from a spreadsheet.including the images addresses. The whole catalog took 20 seconds to upload compared to 2 to 3 days for a PayPal product by product upload of 200 items.
