Opening a store!

Well... my website, YOUR Free Online Encyclopedia currently offers an online store with a very few books in it (the only items). I'm thinking about getting rid of it and separating it from the encyclopedia then adding many more items to the new site from around my garage and house. However, I want to sell items for other people. How can I do this, any ideas of a slogan or catch phrase to get people to want to sell their items on my site and how do I do it? Should the people selling stuff send them to me first and when it sells I send it out or should they keep the item until it sells. Maybe some ideas of how Amazon and Ebay does it will help - as I don't use them I really don't know! Also, what's the best way for a store front!? - the homepage!

One thing you could do Donald ( I have this on my site) is set up a "Auction Page" and have all the items listed that are currently on sale. When a customer clicks on an item, it brings up the page with more information on that item. Then the user can post a bid via a form or buy it out. It will send the bid or buyout info to me which then I give to the seller. Then thats where paypal comes in. Once the customer paypal's the money to the seller the seller ships the item. Hope this gives some ideas.

Oh sorry Donald, what I mean by "Auction" is just having a page(s) with all the items currently being sold.

oh, ok.

Is there though, some way to allow "bids" like on ebay so you know you're getting the most money for each item?

Hmm not quite like ebay because they have extensive server coding. But like I use, is forms. You have a bid closing date and time and people can send you their bid via a form on the page.

ok, that's cool. Maybe on like a daily basis I could write what the current bid is so people know what they have to beat to get the product.

Also, when selling other people's products, what's a good commission? 10%, 20%?

Also, can somebody tell me which template has the widest width so I don't have to look through each one!

*Yola should include the banner size when selecting template so we know what template is a good size* :)

When an account is created through Yola, Yola should ask for your time zone and this will synchronize with your sites. Right now, posting a blog will indicate January 1 for me... but where I'm at, it's December 31... different year, different day, different month... LOL!

Hey Donald, lol your too funny about the blog date. But yes time choice would be nice. As far as to your question about the commission, I would say 15% would be good. Like if someone sells a book for $40 you would get about $6. Not too bad considering there isn't much cost on your part. Who knows, you may one day be the main site to sell stuff ;)

yea, I think Yola should lift limitations. Its OUR site and we should be able to do anything we want ranging from modifying the blog date to anything or any date format we wish (what if we wanted to fill gaps for missed periods?) to age restricted limitations to anything else the policy says we shouldn't be able to do. Yola does not look bad because someone posted some illegal, age-restricted, or other type of content. I still can't believe I used the word "sex" and anything from that point on would stop loading. I knew it was the word "sex" because it happened on another page later that week. But yea, my opinion is that yola has two many rediculous rules that make no sense.

Are you sure it was the word "sex?" I have it on one of my pages and it loads fine for me.

I seem to recall this from before Donald. It was not the word itself but there was some kind of coding that was attached to that word that seemed to have interfered with your site. If you wish I can take another look. Can you please let me know the page URL where you're having this trouble. Thanks.
