I am planning to make a client site's home page into a blog page to make it real easy for them to edit. I know how to make it purdy and not bloggy looking. Is there any reason to not have the index page a blog page? I can't think of anything but maybe someone has an opinion either way? Thanks!
Sounds like a cool project, I am interested! Can you tell us why you feel a blog page is easier to edit, are you planning on using all of the blog widgets, or just the actual posting area. I'm must curious as to what the process is that you might have with choosing a blog home page over a webpage home page :) Maybe then we will have some suggestions as to why one might be better than the other.
I am working on a redesign for http://www.faawis.org
If you look at their home page, notice the article on the right side about the welcome message from the new president and the list of articles in the middle under "FAAWIS News". Now these are all from their newsletter that they print and send out. This is mostly what they are planning to update themselves. Here's my plan: Use only the blog widget in the middle column and have only one post which in this case would be the welcome message. Then on the right side, I plan to have only the blog archive widget, which will list all other posted articles--as I build the site, if I use a blog page, I can just copy and paste the news articles to a bunch of posts and have them show up on the right side. Then when they want to add a new article, they just add to the middle blog widget. The rest of the page, I plan to use regular text and html widgets to make it look nice and not bloggy.
I'm just wondering if there is any functionality or anything else I might lose by having the index as a blog?
