Outgoing mail suddenly stops working in Outlook after I started using an iPad

I've had Yola mail for years now and have used it with Outlook successfully the whole time. Maybe a month ago I got an iPad and set it up with my yola email. It receives mail fine, but when I tried to send through that account it told me that my provider does not allow relaying (or something to that effect), and it would not send the message.

Here's the curious part. It would seem that after that I could no longer send email through Outlook either. It has been weeks now and I still can't. I checked all the settings and looked over the tutorial again, and as far as I can tell everything is still as it should be, but it tells me it can't connect to the SMTP server.

Did yola change something with their email server? Any explanation for why this would happen and what I should do to fix it? I tried twice to get help from customer support but they did not respond.

Hi heatherinas,

I'm sorry to hear your mail is no longer functioning for you. We'd like to take a look at your account. Please share your website address or submit a request to support here if you prefer not to post that information on our forum.

My address is www.drheathersmith.com. I already submitted two support requests with no response.

By the way, I realized that I can no longer send email from my Android phone either, and that used to work fine. It seems to me that whatever happened must be on the account or server end and not specific to any device. Note that I can still send mail directly from the website.

Hi heatherinas,

I have investigated this and your mailbox is working as intended, I am able to successfully send emails from it. Are you able to send emails directly from webmail when logging into your mailbox from within your Yola account?

The fact you are unable to send emails from multiple devices is an oddity and I would like to take this one step at a time, by first confirming you can send emails from webmail directly, then checking that the smtp port setting in any one of the devices is set to 587, and then re-entering the password within mail settings, and then trying to send an email from the device.

This worked from Outlook! The default outgoing port setting was 25. When I changed it to 587 suddenly it started sending again. Yay!

I will check my other devices and report back if I have any problems. Thanks for the help.

(P.S. to answer your question, I've always been able to send directly from webmail)

This solution worked great on my phone and in Outlook but I still can't get it working on my iPad. When I let the settings default I can get incoming mail fine but when i try to send mail I get the message that the server doesn't allow relaying. When I then go in and set the outgoing port to 587 it tells me the server isn't responding and that I should check my settings. That is even after i enter the password again. Ideas?

Hi heatherinas,

The error message 'the server does not allow relaying' generally indicates the third party mail client is struggling to authenticate your outgoing mail server settings. It's difficult since the third party mail client is outside our domain.

My best advice at this stage would be to re-enter all outgoing mail server settings, passwords included, and to enter the alternative port number 8025.

I hope this helps!

Use that port just for outgoing mail, or for both outgoing and incoming mail?

Hi heatherinas,

I apologize for the delay in response. That would be for the outgoing port specifically.

This did not work, however I figured out a solution. I changed from IMAP to POP, and now it works with all the default settings.
