Page Preview anomaly ??

I've been watching this problem develope for about a week now.

In the site builder, when previewing a page, a new window opens up, starts to load then stops. You then have to close it and click preview again. Most of the time it works the second second time round. Not to serious and I've learned to live with it, but clearly not right

The main problem is, sometimes it just hangs. You can't preview or update the site at all.
All other functions still work, like the widgets, file manager etc, but its pointless carrying on because you can't preview, save the page or update the site. The only alternative is to shut down the site builder and start again.

Has anybody else noticed this problem. I'm geting it from two different locations (home and Work) on two different PC's. Same website though.

Windows XP, Firefox 3.0.11, Tastlessly template.

I haven't had this problem Boomer - however, I haven't been using the Tastelessly template. Let me try it out and see if I garner the same results.

I just tried the Tastelessly template... and no trouble previewing it here. Mind you, this site is in its beginning phases so there's not a lot interacting with the template which may or may not affect the preview.

It seems strange... I think Yola employees should consider re-working this Tastelessly template. Although, I myself am not a user of it, I have noticed a lot of people having issues with this particular template.

In addition to the problems stated here, the other common issue that comes up is with editing its banner.

I think there's something else.. but I can't remember right now what it is.

I have never seen this, but I am going to start looking into it.

I think there is enough info on this thread, but I will come back once I have done an initial investigation if I need anything more.

Been meaning to report this problem for a while now. It's actually been more like 2 weeks I've been having it. I was afraid it might have been some CSS code I was using that was interfering with Tastlessly's default CSS and maybe it could still end up being this.

I'm glad somebody is going to look at it... thanks Monique.

Ok....this could be a dumb question, but could my CSS button code be interfering with the site builders button codes ??

I'm actually trying to do that now...if my page will just stop loading - been 5 min now. It's really becoming frustrating. I think it may be the code. Will report back.

Boomer - sorry to pile in, but could you also let us know if you get the same problem on a page that is blank or has only text/pictures/standard stuff? Any additional detail like that would be great :)

Boomer: I can't replicate this on other sites. It could be CSS. Can you drop me an email at support@yola.com so we can troubleshoot from there?

After an hour of fiddling here's what I've found.

Deleting the CSS button code seems to have no effect on the original problem.
You can preview a page as many times as you like in the site builder and it will load perfectly every time. The minute you edit it and do a preview to see the new changes it freezes the first time, but after that it works fine. You always got to do it twice!

Here's the site I'm working on at the moment: http://travelsa.yolasite.com/
You may play around with it on your side, Monique. If you still want me to email you with the site URL, I will Monique.

To see what I'm talking about, just pull in a text widget and type some arbitrary text into it and then try preview the page to see what I mean. Hope this helps.

And Murphy.... stay out of this !!

Murphy's law - if something can go wrong there's a good chance it will.
ie. Chances are the site will behave itself when Monique looks at it ;-)

Hi Boomer

When I preview your site, Firebug shows me this error:
mainDiv is null
http://www.jotform.com/js/form.js?v2....
Line 580

Can you take a look at your Jotform code and see if you can find the problem?

@ Monique

I must be honest, I have not looked at the JotForm error yet, because I don't believe this is the problem. I'm having the same problem on another site now also using the Tastelessly template.

From what I have figured out, you have to click on the "save" button first before doing a "preview page" or a "site update"

If you don't do it in that order the "preview page", "update site" and the "save button" becomes unresponsive.

The only option after that is to shut down the site builder, lose all your work, and start over again.

If you could get one of the guys to play around in the site builder using the Tastelessly template you will see what I mean.

Boomer, i too use tastelessly have had banner and font issues but, not this one. But, you mention above that you have to use the "save" button before the "preview page" strange because since I've had this page, I am prompted to save before previewing page. wont allow me to proceed withou using the "save" function. Odd that that wasnt the case for you.
I know I didnt solve anything...just thinking out loud. :o)

Hey B-man

Sadly it is on Burlap as well... Maybe it is in the styles with the changeable background??? I have not played around with it yet to find out... Later I will invest some time...

Hi Boomer - i can pin point the exact time this happened to me - today - i added the link opacity script and all was well then i changed the img opacity to 50 and 0.5 respectivly and boom - no page preview.

It was working a second before that now its gone for what seems like forever. (even changing the opacity levels dosnt bring it back.)

Hope this helps solving this

Lee.

Hi Boomer

Have you had a chance to troubleshoot on this any further? If you are still getting it consistently I would like to call in some tech help to get to the bottom if it.

Hey B do you use XP Pro like me because I still am getting the white screen after preview and update and have to close out and re-click the preview or update button again. Sometime several time. BUT when I was using the builder with my Vista comp it was in and out with no messin about = no white screen waiting game...

Interesting in the least...
