Pasting from WORD extra code is NO MORE... A HoneyBearPlayhomes tip...

I deserve a pat on the back for this one ;) (just kidding)

So Peter had a post about trying to figure this one out and you all know I am up to a good challenge so here ya all go...

A HoneyBearPlayhomes backdoor tip to save all your Word documents and be able to paste the text without any extra Word code appearing when viewing in IE.

1) Save the Word document as a "web page filtered" file
2) Microsoft Office Word Pop-up will appear asking if you wish to save even though it will remove Office-specific tags. Click "Yes"
3) Right click on the saved file and click on "Open with" then click "Firefox"
4) When the file opens with Firefox Highlight all the text
5) Right click and select "Copy"
6) Open your site builder
7) Drag a fresh Text widget onto your page and paste the copied text.
8) Update your site

I did this with no numbers, numbers, text color, text background color, line spacing of (1,2 and 3)

Example to view:
http://ed-a-torials.synthasite.com/2.php

I have looked at it in FF, IE and Opera and all are the same... NO ADDED CODE to mess up your page... I included at the bottom of the page text copied directly from Word and in IE you will see the extra code.

Bobs your uncle... What do you know... ;)))))))))

Hmmmm it may be the long way around but if it means that you can now use Word to type your website beforehand and paste into a Text widget I think it is simply wonderful...

Enjoy and happy site building...
Ed

Hi Ed,

Thanks for that.

What I am trying to do is to preserve the layout so that it resembles the original Word document.

I have been able to do that for documents with lists and tables but not for documents that contain images.

The method outlined above takes out extraneous code but alters the layout considerably:

the following three shots show a document that contained a table.

The original:

Taking it through HTML Filtered and into a text widget:

taking it through HTML Filtered and into an HTML widget

This next shot shows a document that originally contained images. The images I have uploaded into resources.

In summary if we can work out a way of creating a facsimile of a Word document to place in a Synthasite page that would be great. I haven't discovered the way.

I added this thread sadly not to exactly solve your problem with the images but to offer those who are wishing to go from Word to the site builder without the extra code showing up in text alone. As well there is some languages, content and formatting that does not transfer well from Word to Notepad or Wordpad and a backdoor to transfer it was needed.

They can with this thread cut and paste into two column widgets and insert images on one side and the text on the other to try to in part recreate what they were able to do in Word.

I was working on yours while I was working on this one and I only added that you were working on it as a way to show where I got the fire under me to work on it.

I have several options that I am trying to include images. but I was going to post those in your thread when I finish.

This is a very good tip. I am going to do some test runs myself, and if it works we will add it to our help files (If that is ok with you, of course!)

Hey Eddie,
Thanks for the link the other day. I achieved a similar thing last night after much playing around. What would I do without you man?

Boomer would you believe me if I told you I did that with (Censored by me) and a great deal of code editing? (Alot)

The page that I gave you was only for experienced code manipulators and you have to be really gentle with it or it can cause problems. I am sure you found this out if it ever locked a two column widget for you. The only way to get out of that heart pounder is to drag the other widgets out of the two column widget (except the one from that page) then work on the ones you dragged out and then replace them when you are done.

If you try to do something like I did with the bee with code from that page it can break your page and cause the entire page to freak out. (Not recommended)

With the way I did it with the bee there is no fear of breaking the page as it is not that kind of code...

Some secrets I have to keep to myself to protect the system ;) But most all I know I share don't I?

Give me a jingle on my chat man...

Hey Ed..

Just wondering about something.

I have an old blog at another site. I've been copying my entries into notepad and then pasting into the Syntha blog. However, as you know, this strips the document of any extraneous codes. Currently, I am told there are bugs with the text editor on the blog and therefore it's difficult to make changes to the text.

So... it is possible to copy my old entries from my old blog into Word and then save as an web-page filter to preserve the font style, size, etc... and then paste into my blog at Synthasite?

Hi littleus

I am not a master of the blogs or logs (lol) so I am not sure... All I can say is try the steps above and copy all your blogs into Word and see if it works like I have outlined.

I know for certain that it will work like I described with saving the text, font, size, color and others from Word but as you will be the first to use my tutorial for a purpose I had not imagined it being used for you must let us know if it worked for blog transfers as well.

I see no reason why it should not ;)

I tested the following and you can see them in the Recent Posts

1) Bold, italic, blue, highlighted, Spaced (1&3)...
2) Copying straight from Word
3) Using the tutorial above
