Paypal is not providing proper checkout, who else can I use?

I am trying to build my online store, but paypal is not providing me with the proper help and tools I need. They won't allow me to ship internationally (I have yet to hear from them as to why it isn't allowed) and they won't help me to set up the checkout procedure so that it calculates shipping. I need a checkout option that is user friendly (I admit it, I'm a techno-dummy when it comes to html and technical jargon) so I am not limited by geography, and so that I do NOT have to monitor the site 24 hours to calculate shipping for every sale.

Hello JLConaway

There are many alternatives to PayPal and if you Google for 'alternatives to PayPal' you will find a whole list!

Here are two you can take a look at:

GOOGLE CHECKOUT:

Google Checkout is a checkout service that allows you to process orders and charge credit or debit cards for free. Google Checkout is not integrated into the Site Builder, but you can use it by utilizing the "HTML" widget. Here are some instructions that will help you set this up:

To get started please to go to Google Checkout.

You will need to follow through the process of setting up an account; if you all ready have an account with Google for other services such as Email, Analytics, AdSense or AdWords you will be able to use this account, although you will need to add additional information, such as Personal Contact Information, Public Contact Information and Product Type and Financial Information (this will require a valid credit card).

When you agree to Google's Terms of Service and the sign up is complete, you will be able to set up how you want to integrate Google Checkout with your site. You can easily set up "Buy Now" buttons which can be set up to sell multiple versions of a product. To create "Buy Now" buttons click on the "Buy Now Buttons" link.

You will be able to set up a "Basic Button" with one option, or a "Button With Options". You will then be able to give your item a name, description and price. Once you have completed your button click "Create Button Code" and you will get a block of code.

To add this button to your site:

1. Copy and paste the block of code that was created.
2. Log into your Site Builder.
3. Drag and drop an "HTML" widget onto your page where you want the button to appear.
4. Paste in the code.

Note: If you would like to put this button next to the picture of a product you can drag and drop a two column widget onto the page and drag and image widget onto one side and an "HTML" widget onto the other (putting the button code in the "HTML" widget).

You can create as many buttons as you would like; simply remove the product information from the fields, add new product information and click "Create Button Code."

Click on the "Settings" Tab to specify a bank account where you would like the payments to go. There are other ways you can use Google Checkout on your website such as with a pre-integrated shopping cart. Please look around Google Checkout to see if there are other ways you would like to use it.

Here is a link to the Google Checkout Merchant Help Website where you will be able to find a variety of help topics.

ALERTPAY:

There is detailed information on adding AlertPay buttons on this link. Once you have created your account and customized the buttons you would like to add to your site, follow these steps:

1. Copy the HTML code provided by AlertPay.
2. On Yola, drag and drop an "HTML" widget onto your page.
3. Paste the HTML code into the editor that opens and click on "OK".

You will see an AlertPay button appear on the page. You can test it by updating your site, visiting the page and clicking on the button. You will be able to manage your payments in your AlertPay account.

I hope this helps.

Thank you, Sanja. As soon as Google gets back to me about verifying an account (I don't own the mobile phone they are asking me to use) I should be good to go. I really appreciate your fast, intelligent and courteous response.

International shipping requires special paperwork so that may be causing you a problem also......Can you tell me what country you are in and what type of product you are wanting to ship? Many things are product/country sensitive....I am in the USA and Ship to Canada using PayPal and have no problem.....Also are you using the online store widget or Add To Cart buttons?

John, I'm in the US, and I do handmade, gemstone jewelry. Nothing I make is product/country sensitive in the least, as I've sent items internationally before. It's only through paypal that there seems to be a problem. As for what buttons? Beats me...I don't even know what you're talking about ... like I said, not stupid, but not computer smart, either

Hello JL

The suggestions of Sanja or Kent would work but involve starting a new account with either Google or Alert Pay.....I assume since you are trying to use the online store widget you already have a PayPal account......The Add To Cart buttons on PayPal offer many more options than the online store widget.....You create them on your PayPal account .....Here is a link for a great explanation of how to use the the Add To Cart buttons http://forum.yola.com/yola/topics/add...

Most of us were new to all of this also when we started....Most things end up being easy but there is SO much information it is mind boggling

I did set up a new account with Google Pay, now all I need is to figure out how to switch buttons! Thank you, everyone, for your help and support.
