I want to add a document to my site but I want the actual document to be seen before it is clicked on. Then, when it is clicked on I want the document to be opened in another window. When I try to add the document(pdf) to my page it just shows there is a pdf doc there. It doesn't preview the actual document Sorry, I am not up on all the lingo. Thanks in advance.

Hello Roni,
Do you mean like a thumbnail pre-view (i.e: miniaturised)? If so then the Yola system doesn't allow for this. When clicked it can open in a new window but without the preview

You could probably do this with some coding and if you would like me to search and hopefully find, I am happy to work together on this. It's a great idea.

Hi Roni and GOP,

Why not open your (pdf)doc, use a snipping/clipping tool grab an image of what you want to highlight and save it. Resize it, if needed, upload, place it as an image where you want on your site. then edit adding internal link to the PDF and click the box (Open in a new window). OK/Save, done...

More image tweaking made needed....
Or with the right code(script) it can be done also, GOP will find it, I may have something like that somewhere, codes all over the place.

Three together working on this would be a great collaboration.
When would you like to report back. 1 day, 2 days, a week? Roni would you like to make the deadline(?) and we'll try to fit in I'm sure.
How does that sound for you Frank?
I'm happy to go with any flow.

Hi Roni.

here are a few leads that may help. If you can look at these and eliminate the unsuitable then happy to go forward:

  • the PDFBox library comes with a command-line utility called PDFToImage that will output to PNG or JPEG. PDFBox is written in Java, so it should be cross-platform. The documentation doesn't appear to offer any control over output image size, but that's a comparatively minor problem.

  • Another alternative to IrfanView is Gadwin Printscreen. You can configure it to capture a selected area, the whole screen, the active window or the client window and you can tell it to create files for each cap in a specific directory.

  • So set it to save files and cap the active window, open all the PDFs in reader and just control-tab through them and press PRINTSCREEN each time. Unless you're dealing with hundreds of them it should be quick.

  • The other idea is to install Sage Thumbs which is a program that also generates thumbnails in explorer all on it's own. It offers to make thumbs for about a zillion file types and pdf is one of them. (Also works great for psd file types in windows seven) Download Softpedia

Wow! Thanks y'all! Sorry I wasn't more help. Computers are a foreign language to me.

Gop, the first solution is easy and works best for me. Thanks so much to all for your research :)

Frank I completely missed your input above. Sorry about that and it is very similar to a few of the methods suggested so thank you and apologies.
