I just got an email from Picnik.com that they're shutting down permenantly on April 19, but will be available for use until that date.

My question is: What is Yola going to replace them with as an editing tool for photos?

Now that they are closing I will give you my honest opinion of Picnik...Sucks totally. There are many other free programs to choose from that are much better. I would also say it is much better to edit your photo before you add it to file manager.

All of the following are free.

http://www.gimp.org/
http://www.getpaint.net/ was called paint.net
http://www.faststone.org/
http://www.photoscape.org/ps/main/ind...

There are others including some web based editing programs that I have forgotten the names of.... I am sure many here can add to this list.

@Gop, LMBO!!!! On another note, "What's Yola gonna do for us now that picnic is closing?!". Uhhhmmm... just a stab but Yola should not have to answer for Picnic. My thoughts are to buy software or pay a designer/photographer/editor if serious about photo quality. Or freebie editor. Or some prefer to ask a mom-turned-photographer. Then again, the soccer mom fauxtography businesses might crumble without Picnic. What will we ever do?! :o

All the editors I listed above are free. Gimp and paint.net are much more powerful than Picnik....The bottom two are at least as good as Picnik.

They offered it in the package obviously, people want to know if it will be replaced. Everyone here I am sure know where to go to edit, but its handy having it right here.

For most Picasa will do what they need . . .I was thinking that since Picasa already has the ability to upload from your desktop to Picasa Web Albums that maybe Yola could come up with a Yola app that lets you upload directly to file manager.

One thing I use picnik for is to re-crop the original photo but be able to have the option to also keep the original picture, picasa doesn't give an option for that. It crops and only way to get it back is upload twice from camera, but you don't know sometimes which you will want two of. Hope that makes sense. I hope you get something in there. Muzy is also fun for collages.

Piccasa works like most other software when you crop...Just do a save as with a new file name on the cropped image.....then on the original click undo crop, the original stays unchanged.

Hello all!

We are excited to announce our new partnership with Aviary in order to bring you a new way to edit your photos.

Aviary is powerful and easy to use. With it you'll find all the features you loved about Picnik, in a slick, new interface. Add text, crop, rotate and adjust your photos, all within the Sitebuilder. This makes the editing process simple and easy! Please follow these steps to edit your pictures:

On the picture that you wish to edit, click on "Edit" on the top-left corner of your Picture Widget. A dialog box will open up. Click on the "Edit With Aviary" button and you will go through to the photo editing dialog box.

OR

Locate your image in the File Manager. Hover over the image and click on the "pencil" icon at the bottom left corner of your image. Alternatively, you can right-click on the picture and select "Edit with Aviary". Both options will take you through to the photo editing dialog box.

Once Aviary is open, use their picture editing tools to adjust your image. You can choose to crop, color, resize, etc. When you've finished editing your picture in Aviary, click on "Apply". Then click on the "Save" button and this will replace your original image in your File Manager.
