Picture widget won't load, though text will.

Trying to add a picture, but the picture widget won't load.

First it says "loading widget" in red in the upper right hand corner.

Then it puts up a gray box with "*loading" written in it.

Then nothing happens.

Then nothing happens.

Then, after a little while longer, nothing happens.

I cleared the cash, restarted my browser, and the same thing happens.

Using Firefox 2.0.0.20 on Mac OSX 10.3.9, the same thing I designed one of the web sites on just a few weeks ago.

Tried Safari and IE, but my site won't even open in those.

The text widget seems to load OK.

Hello, I am sorry this is happening to you.

Do you have your Flash and Java updated? If you make sure those are updated to the latest version of them, that might help out.

I am not able to replicate this on Safari. Here is a screen shot of the image widget on Safari 5 on a Mac:

And when I click "Browse file manger" this is what I see:

Also, do you have Safari 5? And, could you try using Google Chrome browser and see if that works? I use Google Chrome & Safari.

If any of this works, please let me know :)

Sincerely,
Nathan

Hi, Tim,

Can you share the url of your site so we can take a look?

Also, one possibility: Did you edit your picture using Photoshop? The problem could be that the images have a CMYK color mode attached to them - which is not web friendly. You should be able to set your color mode to RGB-16bit and you will then be able to upload them and view them on your site. An easy way to do this is instead of just selecting "save", choose "save for web" in Photoshop. The image will then be automatically saved in the correct format.

I strongly recommend you update to the latest version of Firefox.

Hi Tim

I agree with Diane's suggestion. Upgrade your browser to the latest version, Firefox 3.6.12. Here is the link to download it: Get Firefox.

Nazlie,
Since I was just using this with Firefox a few weeks ago, I'd doubt there is some sudden incompatibility that has caused this. In order to put in a newer version of Firefox, I'd have to put in a MacOS 10.4. In order to do that, I'd have to buy a new computer. I built this site and another using 10.3.9. The second site I built on October 18th, and the photos loaded fine into that.

Diane,
It doesn't matter what style my pictures are in because I have the problem just loading the widget, I never even get to the point of selecting a picture.

Nathan,
Google Chrome only works for MacOS 10.5 and later.

To all,
I was just using this a few weeks ago and the widget loaded fine. Also I can't even get to the point of selecting a picture.

Hmmm.
OK. I just added a text widget to the Picture Gallery Page. Then I clicked "Add Image" and added an image of the van. Though when I double click on the city lights photos to try and add a picture, it still hangs on loading the widget.

So it is the loading of the picture widget itself, and everything else works fine.

Hello Tim

Thank you for this information. We really appreciate you being patient and working with us as we try to work on this together. Here's a few more things I can suggest:

1. Update your Flash.
2. Update your Java.
3. Do you have any browser add-ons? If so , try disabling them.
4. Do you have any blocking programs such as Firewall, anti-virus, spam blocker, ad-blocker, etc?? Try disabling these as well.

Please let me know how this goes.

Turned the firewall off and Norton Auto-Protect off. Everything else hasn't changed.

Still no luck.

Hmmm. Well something will come up.

So the text and column divider widgets both load, but the picture widget won't even after undoing the only changes (I think) I've made to the computer.

HTML widget also loads fine, but the File widget puts up the grey " * loading " box with the background greyed out and just keeps loading and loading and loading.

This is quite baffling Tim! The only other thing I can think of is trying to uninstall your browser and re-installing it. Would you be able to to try this? Also, have you tried updating your Flash and Java? I wasn't clear if you had tried this.

Just ran Software Update and it says I have the latest of everything that my computer will run. They are the same versions I was using 3 weeks ago, too.

Yes, this is baffling.

Cleared my cache again and deleted the yola cookies.

Could something have happened during the updating of Yola that finished a few weeks ago?

Could you clear all cookies? It will log you out of this forum and stuff, but, it might work. Do you have any add ons? Such as toolbars and stuff. Try disabling all of them. Have you tried a different computer? Like a friend's computer or another computer? Or a different browser?

Hi Tim, I don't know. Because if something happened this would be happening to all Yola users, not just you.

I'll try clearing all cookies. I'll try a friend's computer when i can. The other browsers I have won't let me log in at all. The only browser that runs under 10.3.9 that will let me log in is Firefox.

Or at least it would be happening to all Yola users who are using the same outdated software my older computer keeps me using.

Cleared all private data, including the cache and all cookies. No dice.

It is curious that it just does it with the picture widget and the file widget and none of the others.

Hi Tim

I'm wondering if you could email support@yola.com as I would like to have your permission to go into your Sitebuilder to see if I can replicate this behavior?
