Here is what I am doing and what is happening:

Created new page
Added two column layout to page
Put text box into each side of two column layout
Added pictures to left side of column...no problems
Tried to add pictures to right side of column and pics appear as broken
When I save, the pictures show up in preview
When I go back to the edit page the pictures appear to be broken and I can not edit them.

A few minutes later.......All pictures now show to be broken. When updates are saved they appear. There is no way to edit pics, move them etc.

Hello njoynlife,

First I want to be sure I know what you are trying to accomplish. Do you want to have two inner columns with text and a column on both the right and left of the two text columns with images? So then you put a two column widget onto the page and put text in each side, did you then drag an image widget to the right and left of the two column widget to get the pictures to appear?

I am thinking you should put a two column widget into each side of the first two column widget. Then in the two inner columns put the text widgets, and in the two outer columns drag an image widget.

Let me know if I am not correct in my thinking of what you are trying to accomplish. Also posting a screen shot would be helpful so I can take a look.

Regards,
Emmy

Hey Emmy thanks for responding.

Here is the page I am working on:
http://myauntcameback.synthasite.com/...

I am working in text but have the text inside of a two column layout to give a uniform look. As you can see the pictures show up on the published site, but when I go into edit the pictures only appear as a small broken picture link. I have done this many many times but today there seems to be a system error. I wish that I could give you a shot of what the edit looks like but I do not know if that can be done or even how to do it.

Just for the heck of it, I tried to add a photo into a simple text box. I republished the page so that you could see what is happening. It is the same regardless of using the two column layout or not. The problem is in adding a picture to text which should be a simple task...I hope. LOL.
So if you see, there is no way to edit the pictures, yes I know that I can use picnik but I used to be able to take the picture and minimize in inside of the text box with a simple click and drag. Now the only thing that shows is a tiny ripped picture with no options to even view the picture but the pictures obviously are there as shown on my published page.

Can you give me a screen shot of the inside of your site builder? What file format are the pictures in and what size are they?

Hello! Ok, to do a screen shot using a PC hold down the alt key and press print screen. You won't see anything happen... but it did! Now click the Start Icon down in the left hand corner of your screen and type mspaint into the search box. Paint will open up and now you need to copy your screen shot into it so hold down the ctrl key and press v. This will copy the shot of your page into paint. If you want to crop the image and show me just the broken image area click Image > Crop and then drag your mouse over the area you want to show me. I do want to see more than just the broken file image though so give me the entire editable area of your screen. Click File > Save As.

I have just done a test and see that it is possible to click on an image inserted into a text widget and drag the corner to resize. So, this is a mystery to me right now that we will figure out!

What is the file type as well as the file size? How does the file appear in your File Manager? Can you see the entire thing or does it appear broken there as well?

the smaller bowl is 7.1 KB and is a .jpg. This picture was pulled from my manager and has been used on the site in other areas, in the same way with no problems. This problem only arose today. The huge pic is from my computer, also a .jpg and is HUGE...I dont know the size...lol. The file size and type shouldnt matter in this situation as I am using the same pictures all over the website and havent had problems before. So to wrap it up, this is happening with pictures that I am loading today and it doesnt matter if they are older pics from my file manager that worked or if I pull them from my pc. I am stumped.

Also, Emmy thanks for walking me through the screen shot and everything, I learned so much today that will help me in the future. Maybe I should just go shopping and come back and try again in an hour or two. Maybe it will fix itself. I just promised the client I would have this out to her very soon. Sigh. lol

hey girl you can edit the size by simply inserting the image on a page via an image widget then resize to no larger than 900 pixels wide with picnic and save to the file manager when prompted then delete the image widget from your page then update your site.

It will change the size of the image in the text widget automatically

that image is over 3 MB and omg way too big but you knew that. ;)

Yep, I have technical difficulties with my brain not comprehending how my camera works to move the pixels down lower. They are working on it right now and I dont want to mess with anything. If it is a problem on my end, we know that is the end of me because I would never know how to fix it!!!!

I also just got this problem!!! It was really strange. It was fine one minute, then the next minute.. not fine anymore. I don't know if this is coincidence or not.. but listen to my story.

When I finished editing my site and saved, I closed my window. After which, the FF decides to it's time for an update and installs the newest version. I went back to my site and that's when I discovered the missing images. However, as njoynlife mentioned, it works fine when published but just not in edit mode.

I checked it out in IE7 and it's fine in both the edit and published mode.

I think it may have to do with this FF update thing?

Hey njoynlife

Did your FF upgrade today? If so, then I think that is most likely the reason why our pictures are appearing to be broken.

Hard to tell because one of the options we tried was to update FF to the most recent 3.0 I do know that there was a download helper 4.2 update. I removed it but dont know that this would help because like I said I updated FF myself. :(

Hey guys,
I have tested adding images to text widgets using the latest version of Firefox and cannot replicate the broken images. So I am not convinced that this is a problem with the latest version. I need a bit of time to get some more input on this one. Thanks for all your help and patience!!

Here's my two cents worth. I am wondering since the images were uploaded and were placed on the site via the old FF, if somehow the new version of FF has interrupted something. It would appear that njoynlife also uploaded the images using the old version - then she upgraded to the new version of FF and would appear that's when her problems started. (I'm just assuming here). This appears to be the problem with me too.

I assume that if you uploaded the images using the new version, then no problems would appear as you are already using the new version.

Perhaps, as a test, you need to upload the images via the old version of FF, save site, then reload the new FF and see what happens. The problem may have occurred during the actual upgrade.

Who knows!

I'm not very good at explaining things clearly. So, please don't hesitate to ask me more questions. Thanks for looking into this problem.

I reverted back to the old version of FF. Now the images are working just fine. The problem is definitely with the newest version of FF.

littleus is correct. I was able to replicate this in Firefox 3.0.7

Thanks for everyone for their extensive help in reporting this. If you have updated your version of Firefox and your images now appear missing, first of all: DO NOT PANIC! They are still there. You will not need to redo them.

When you add an image inside a text widget you will see what looks like a link to a missing image. However, when you preview or publish your site the image will appear as expected.

We have reported the problem and our engineers are working on it. In the meantime, you could:
1) Use an image widget to add your image instead.
2) Add the image in a text widget and use preview mode to see how it will display on your published site.

This workaround is a bit tedious, so please bear with us. Hopefully we will have a permanent solution soon.

Seems that this happened before on one of the earlier versions of firefox. It was something as simple as the old and new redirecting differently or having a 500 where a 500px should be. I tried, I researched for hours, went through each of my plug-ings and extentions. Turned each one off and on to see if this would fix the problem. Tried updating them all, nothing worked. The html inside of edit, behind the pics looks odd to me as well but I am not smart like all of you when it comes to this stuff.

I am certain that this will be resolved soon as the problem is starting to pop up on other boards as well. Some seem to think it has to do with flash other believe it is adobe, lots of theories floating around. It is effecting the size and shapes of pics and there is also a problem with password saving.

There were tons of error messages on my personal firefox board as well. I saved the ones pertaining to synthasite, if you think they would help I will forward them. In the end, I uninstalled 3.0.7 and went back to 3.0.5. Again, for me as well, this resolved the problem. I know that the update covered a security risk so I upped my virus protection level and everything seems to be working fine still. Thanks for working so hard on this for us. You all are very much appreciated!

I have the same issue from a few days back which I had assumed was to do with the latest FF update.
I get round it by using IE (still using 6) in the meantime but it is a pain as it also does 'weird' things with the pictures in the boxes and I have to click on the heading bar to view the whole page, including pictures. While I am editing text no pictures show up, just the "broken" links.

With the latest update of FF there is under "tools" an "error console"
Not sure what to make of the info if gives but here is a link to one of the entries on mine if it helps....

Warning: Error in parsing value for property 'color'. Declaration dropped.

Ok, because when I viist the link there are just x'd out boxes. Did you try downgrading to the previous version of firefox? It seemed to work for me and a couple of others.
