Hi everyone

I have just published my first site and while there is still some tweaking to be done I would love to hear what you think of it. Please don't pull any punches as I would welcome constructive criticism and any advice would be appreciated. I am still waiting for my Adsense account to be activated so some of the remaining white space will be populated soon.

the url is www.smoothielover.com

I'd love to hear from you!

I like the colours on your site. I would suggest making the navigation bar the same width as the banner, and maybe making your own logo instead of the default Yola text over the banner. Overall very good. Your site's nice, clean and fast to load.

Also adding favicons and updating Window titles (eg. Smoothielover | Home , Smoothielover | Equipment) , maintaining constancy through your site, just to give it a finished touch!

Thanks for the quick response and the advice Connor! How can I change the width of the navigation bar? This was bugging me as well!

Also, how do I change the logo?

I have never used this template before so I don't know yet but I'll check it out now. The template might not allow custom banners.

Personally I use Adobe Photoshop but here are a few links to online favicon generators:

Hello 1confusedblugger,

Great site. Attractive, informative, clean.

The criticism I have is also with your banner and menu. Similar to connor's.
I have included a screen shot of what I have seen in Chrome. There appears to be an offset on each banner shot so it may well be a Chrome bias.

The seamless inclusion of recipes into a blog is just such a great example for many web site creators. That works well.

Great site congrats.

Connor - thanks for your advice about this yummy new website!

Lawrence - I think you have done a great job. Your site looks clean and professional and you have used color very effectively to create an eye-catching result.

Unfortunately the issue with the nav bar/ menu is a problem with the style. The default banner image has some padding set around it and I see this is not retained when you upload a custom banner image.

The width of the nav bar is out of your control. I will log a bug about this issue though. What you could try is to use the "Edit Banner" button to reduce the width of the banner image on either side to line it up with the nav bar. This takes a bit of fiddling, but I tried it out and it does work. Not an ideal solution but it might give you a more pleasing result until the bug can be fixed.

I see you have implemented Connor's favicon suggestion.

I think your page heading text looks fine but if you want to remove the default text:

1) Click on the page heading
2) Delete the text in the box that drops down and replace it with a single space

You can then edit your banner image in Picnik or in Photoshop and add your own text on top of the image and save the whole thing as a jpg.

In Picnik you would use the "Create" tab to add your text and then save the image back to Yola. In Photoshop you would create a text layer.

You have been working really hard, but if you want to experiment with this at some stage you might like the additional customization of creating your own header text.

In an upcoming release we will give you an easy way to do this in Yola, so look out for improvements in this area!

Also, just say, that I made the banner fit by making the width 770 and then using the 'edit banner' editor, put it in the middle.

Hi Connor, great job. Can you explain to me how you did this? Did you use the process Monique suggested by editing the jpg and saving it as a new image with the text added?

Connor, how did you make the width exactly 770, is there a property that I can access?

Thank you all so much for the responses!

Peter, thank you for your input. I also agree that the banner offset is visually distracting. Firefox and IE produces the same result so it is unfortunately not unique to Chrome.

Monique, great advice, I will give it a try and let you know if I have any difficulty despite your clear instructions.

Connor, thanks again for trying to help. Once again this forum has proven to be one of the friendliest and most helpful communities I have interacted with and this is thanks to members like you.

Hi 1confusedblugger

I'm loving the look of your site - it looks so refreshing! =)

I just have a couple of suggestions.

1. I noticed on your homepage, about us and equipment page, there seems to be a column of white space on the left-hand side. I don't know if that is intentional or if something is supposed to be in that spot. I don't know if it's possible to drag the left side of your content to fill in that spot?

2. On your blog page, maybe you could consider putting in an anchor tag so that when a person reaches the bottom of your page, they can just click on a link that says "return to top" without having to scroll all the way back up.

Aside from these two very minor things, I cannot think of anything else. You have done a great job of putting together this site. It looks great, works great and just feels great!

Hi littleus! That is wonderful to hear, especially coming from you. I checked out your great site as well and I love what you have done. I may have to ask you for some tips sometime!

The whitespace will only be there until my Google Adsense account is activated. I then plan to insert ads there.

Thank you, that is a great idea! I will do it right away.

Thank you for your kind words, I really appreciate them.

Hi Gypsy

Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate the feedback!

I just looked at your site and I really like the colours you chose! Great banner image too and i like the neat and clean layout. Overall, a very nice job.

Perhaps I could pass on the tip littleus gave me which is to put an anchor tag at the bottom of each page to allow the user to navigate back to the top of the page easily.

Well done!

Thank you Kent, I appreciate the feedback! I don't have an image under "home" on the index page though? I will be inserting ads in that space. Or am I misunderstanding what you are saying perhaps?
