Hi everyone

I decided to emphasize key phrases in my website text with bolding and color highlighting but now I am unsure whether it adds or detracts from its readability. Would you please take a look and give me your opinion on this or any other issues you notice on the site? I would really appreciate the feedback!

The url is www.mesmerizedmind.com
Thanks

Hi 1CF

Emmy has written a great tutorial on using formatting to help with SEO. Knowing you, you have probably checked it out already. But for the sake of anyone else who is interested, here is the link: http://www.yola.com/tutorials/buildin...

Studies show that most web users don't read - they scan. So highlighting key words and phrases is a good way to draw people's attention to important information, as well as teaching the search engines what your keywords are.

Having said that - while the concept is good - personally I think you have highlighted too many words on that page, so it starts to get a bit confusing. I would reduce the number of highlighted words to only the most important. Tricky, I know, as you have a lot of rich content on the page.

Thanks for the quick response Monique! I have to agree with you, I will need to look at it again.

I did check out the tutorial but I am definitely going to read it again to make sure I covered all the points.

Hi 1CB

First of all, well done on putting together this site. It comes across as being interesting, easy to navigate and enjoyable to read.

In my opinion, I don't think the color highlighting text or phrases detract from its readability. In fact, I think it encourages me to keep reading!

I do have two minor suggestions though that you may or may not feel will be of benefit.

1. I noticed that your links and your bolded/highlighted text are very similar. I would try to emphasize the difference a bit more. Perhaps one way of doing is to "unbold" the key words or change the color, and bold the links and/or make the text slightly larger. This way people know that there's a definite difference between the two.

2. I would put a bit of "white space" between your ads and the content. Just simply drag a text widget over and place under your ads. Hit enter one or two times to achieve that bit of space.

Remember that these are only suggestions and you need to do what is best for you and your site. =)

I think it looks very nice! Good balance with the colors of the flower. You might try a test page with the menu colored to match the lime green leaf, but it may be too wild. Good job man!

Hi 1CB

Since you used the menu that is part of the template, you cannot change the font or color. If you create your own custom menu, then this font color change is possible.
