Hi Donald,

I just had a quick look over your website and yeah its full of information and some very good detail but it doesnt really "SHOW" you what you are capable of ie pictures of some landscaping you have done previously would be good to see on your home page and also maybe a new banner to catch people's attention as it doesnt convey the message of a landscape agency website to be honest.

Sorry if i sounded negative at all just trying to help you out as I always appreciate some tips myself.

yea, I'd have to agree. It's actually a work in progress, I just wanted to get the information needed up there as soon as possible, now I'm going to start adding other stuff such as pictures. I don't have any pictures of works I've done, I use to but not anymore, so I need to search the internet for free to use images (just to get the site started then I'll add my own later). I also would really like it if someone more experienced with banners to create me one or help me to create one, I'd like it to maybe show a yard and a house with a lawn mower and guy mowing the yard. I want both the page title and subtitle as shown.

The Later is just a simple clean look the substitutebench one has pics and wording!! just as examples to you....

as for photoshop, I wouldn't even know where to start, I'm not that good of an artist. I don't even have it right now, I use to, but I've reinstalled windows a month ago.

Yes I agree with Craig. A few pictures of the yards you've done in the past (that look amazing) should be in there. For your flyer that you have a link to at the bottom of your page; I would change it to a 1997-2003 .doc file. Which is for pre-MS office 2007. Most people still don't have the 2007 version and won't be able to see your flyer.

Also, I didn't know you lived in Florida! I live in Seminole county, so not that far away!

yea, I know... I had it like that at first and then when I made some changes I accidentally had my 2007 (docx) saved and uploaded, I'll change that soon.

Hi Donald,

I have to agree with Craig, currently there is nothing "personal" feeling about it at all in my opinion. Pictures would be a nice start. I would also look for a different style that speaks more to a landscaping business. Check out: Essense, Earthling or Economics. I also found all the boxes with blue backgrounds difficult to read.

Your "services" and "proudly serving" information may work better on different pages so as to remove some of the cluttered feeling on the homepage.

Hope this helps to get you pointed in the right direction! Happy Site Building!

yea, the reason I placed those on the homepage is because you have four seconds to attract someone's attention (which doesn't say much lacking pictures lol) but I basically had the idea of providing information the user would most likely want to know right away (services we provide, areas we serve, etc.). But as I find pictures to place on the homepage, things will most likely be moved around (even to different pages).

Hi Donald I done you a banner just to see what can be done although it may look hopeless as I done it first in word to show you, not sure what you think!!

The white wording i just took from your website as an example but you could have a 2 line statement on there or something along those lines!!

thanks Craig, that would actually look really good if you could make it the approximate size of my banner! :) Although, I think a two line statement might be better, perhaps with larger text, it appears hard to read and people don't like to struggle to read.

Hi, here are a few photos you could use for now. All are public domain from Wikimedia commons--some are from the US Navy. Who knew they did landscaping! :) I cropped a couple and saved all for the web so they should load well.

lol, the military does more jobs than the "212" they say you can enlist in. But they do good landscaping LOL... you've never seen landscaping done until every detail was perfect and done in record timing! Although, that's not a "military" job, it's just what they do as an extra. They don't enlist to do "landscaping". Often, soldiers will own their own landscaping services while serving and sometimes civilians will do the same.

But thanks for the photos!

I like the borders and backgrounds I'm using but maybe a color change can help, please provide me with ideas of colors to use, preferably one color for the title background, one color (a different shade) for the text background, and a color for the text area. Maybe some greens, but regular green is a little too bright on the eyes, so different shades and rgb would help.

Hi Donald,

Yeah if you want to give me a two line statement I can certainly do that for you and also the size of your banner you are using so I can get that spot on too. Yeah I can do larger text as well and if its not to your taste I can change it. I will try and get this done for you asap once you pass me on the details.

Cheers

C

yea, I think I already said I want to do that somewhere above, I would really like some ideas for colors...

I'm thinking green and brown (landscaping colors)... thinking about using the same format, green in the title of the section, a lighter green in the body of the section, dark brown text, and the border same color as the text.

However, I don't want to use regular colors, they must be a different shade (00ff00) just looks too bright. If you have any ideas please let me know.

In my code, border is in text (red), text is in hex (i.e., 00ff00), and my background is rgb. If you have ideas of colors, please provide these numbers. :)

I do know that settings on computer's can change the appearance (and colors) of things, I viewed my encyclopedia on a friend's computer and some things gave me a headache which don't on mine or my mother's computer.

Try this site for picking colors: http://www.hypergurl.com/colormatch.php

You just move the sliders around to try different ones. Here's a screen shot of one possibility

thanks Craig, stay tuned for changes. Is it possible for you to send me the file to those to allow me to change them? I'm thinking about making the two line statement different for each page - depending on that page. So one of those would be good for my homepage!

Well, feel free to use your imagination for each of my pages. I'd like them to be unique to each page, try using the subtitle I've already used and maybe the page title or something. :) Anyways, checkout my new border/background text areas...

I haven't done them all yet, don't want to go too far without opinions.

Sorry photoshop giving me some bother just now if you try adding some white text onto the jpg you took off of here with your page headings then it could work in the meantime!!

yea, I think I'll leave the one banner on all pages for now and I'll (we) can change them later to suit the specific page.

Did you notice how I have a "Create your profile" option for my customers? This allows them to view progress and work done to their yard, suggestions for future work, see their referral points (from the referral contest), and ultimately pay their bill using paypal. I'd like to get photoshop and have that banner saved into photoshop so I can include the customer's name in the banner (or better yet) maybe you can provide me one with no white text (you can leave the "Personal Touch Landscaping") and I can use any program such as paint, to add the customer's name. This personalizes their page to give them a 'cool' feeling.

OR, the best option, is to switch the grass to the other side and leave the white text area blank, and I can use the "page heading" option in the properties bar to add their name... that would make it extremely easy.

Or... because I've become a little smart with Yola, I know how to right align the title option... if I do that and put their name on the right, the banner can stay the same, just delete the white text option. I also think, the customer's name on the right might be the best option.
