Pointing domain name to Yola using A records

I'm trying to point a domain name I purchased through Inmotionhosting to my yola site. The original instructions are to add two A lists addresses "@" and "www" and point to yola's IP address. "@" and "www"? @ what? and www. what?
Since Yola doesn't have a DNS it makes it really hard to add a domain name to a site I've already published through Yola. So hard that after using Yola on a regular basis for a year, I'm seriously considering NOT renewing Yola Silver.

Hello DaddyPhantom PhotoTron,

You need to create 2 A records. One labelled 'www' and the other labelled '@' pointed to Yola's IP address: 184.72.229.176. There is nothing else following these because the DNS management handles the process after the addition of these records for your domain.

Once you add these successfully it can take some time to move through the web and be registered at various places along the way, so if your not able to publish your site to your new domain immediately this may be the reason. At worst you may have to wait 48 hours but generally it is much quicker.

I hope the rest of the process is much easier going and good luck.

Ok so should the whole thing look like this:

www.yolasite.my website name.com.au
184.72.229.176
www.my website name@yolasite.com
184.72.229.176

Is this correct? If not can you correct this.

If it was explained with a full illustration as above maybe we may not be so confused!

Hello Admin

What's the name of the provider where you have your domain? We have tutorials about setting up domain pointing with specific providers (please see section 6).

You will need to log into the control panel with your provider and access your domain settings. Usually they provide a menu with a table where you will find two columns with fields to be filled in: the left column may say "www" for a line and "@" for another line, and you will need to add Yola's IP address next to it in the right column, once for "www" and once for "@" (or whatever it's called with your provider).

We can just give you basic information on how to point your domain. Please contact the support of your provider and give them the information you find on this thread or in our tutorial Publish to a domain you already own. They should be ready to guide you through the steps on your account with them.

Hi again DaddyPhantom PhotoTron,

I didn't respond to your statement regarding the DNS with Yola.

Yola do have a DNS management facility but this wouldn't be of any help for an externally pointed domain as is the situation the whole web over.

DNS Managements work with domains hosted within their sphere. To be able to use the Yola DNS management you would need to either purchase a domain from Yola or transfer a domain held by another host to Yola.

Their DNS system is quite good.
