Hello Sandra,

Yola's DNS management system allows for easy management of such technical manipulations.

This will most probably require you to add A records. The tutorial for this:http://www.yola.com/tutorials/article...

If this is over-whelming the Yola staff will happily help you through this.

I sent them an email here is there reply: You should *NOT* enter an IP address to point your domain. Our IP address may change from time to time as we upgrade our infrastructure and your site will stop working if you do.

The correct configuration is to add a CNAME record that aliases silverschells.com to "mysupadupa.com" (that's just mysupadupa.com - NOT silverschells.mysupadupa.com). That should be all that's needed.

so, now I don't know what to do?

OK. Thanks Sandra.

Your site is a sub-domain of mysupadupa.com.

I don't know how to do this so I will leave it to Yola Support. They may take until Monday or so to get to this. Suggest that you send an email to support@yola.com referring to this thread.

I would also consider getting a Top-level domain for the purposes of SEO. There is some negative consequence of sub-domains for aspects of being noticed by search engines and users when you publish to a sub-domain.

Domains are really cheap about $11 with Yola and also there are other providers with intro new domains for about $2.00 for the first year if this is your budget.

Hi Sandra,

If you would like to use a CNAME to map your Yola domain to your subdomain, here's how to add it through Yola:

- Login to your Yola account and make sure you are on the "My Yola" page.
- Click on "Domains" in the menu on the left-hand side.
- Then click on "Advanced settings" of the domain you would like to edit.
- Click on "Change your DNS settings".
- Click on "Add DNS record". This will open up the area that will allow you to edit the CNAME records manually.
- Ensure "CNAME" is selected from the drop-down box and enter the name and value of your CNAME record.
- Click "Update" when have completed adding the CNAME record.

Please note that you can only add the CNAME to www.silverschells.com. It is not possible to add a CNAME to your base domain silverschells.com (this is the same for all domains). This means that only www.silverschells.com will point to your subdomain silverschells.mysupadupa.com.

I hope this helps your decision!

I don't understand what Top-level domain is? I have a domain name silverschells.com and I want it to point to mysupadupa.com.

I bought silverschells.com through yola

Thank you for your help so far:)

silverschells.com is a TLD. This simply means that it is closest to the .com or .org or whatever. (In fact that is not correct but it is commonly defined. The TLD is the .com or similar, the secondary name is whatever the name is for your domain.) It is more accurately described as a custom domain as Yola refers to it.

When the URL becomes silverschells.mysupadupa.com it is a sub-domain of mysupadupa.com you are in effect sharing a domain with however many others.

Sub-domains are a compromise often they are offered for free or for shall i say it(?) profit makers for the domain owners and when customers see such URL's they tend not to be so confident of purchasing from such a site. Yola have also sub-domains and they are free and have the same issues. It may not be founded in fact but the impression is that they are not as trustworthy (by the customers).

The benefit really is to mysupadupa and not to silverschells. Silverschells is unlikely to get much benefit in recognition by being a sub-domain. TLD's (custom domains) have a much stronger presence than sub-domains even if they are part of a marketing strategy.

Oh, I get it!! Maybe have to rethink things. If I do point it to mysupadupa.com can I later change it back? I need something fast for now, I have the MTV movie awards come up and need to make 110 jewelry for the event and would never have time to
get my yola silverschell.com done in time? hmmm, still need to think about this

Thank you so much for your help

The ability to move it back is very easy. Yola would simply take off the CNAME links and you are back on board.

Good luck with the jewelry!

One more question, I received info on what to do, apparently I did it wrong.
it say to Ensure "CNAME" is selected from the drop-down box and enter the name and value of your CNAME record.

what is the name and what is the value?

Hi Sandra,

I feel really sorry for you that this is still going on. I'm not ignoring it but just don't have the knowledge to help you out with this.

I hope it isn't causing you stress with your deadline. I'm sure there is an answer and it will come forward.

Take care.

Hi Sandra,

Your domain registrar would need to tell you what to point your CNAME to, and when you have this information we can help you add the record if you get stuck.

Thanks,
Jackie

Hi Sandra,

Your domain silverschells.com is hosted with Yola, but your subdomain silverschells.mysupadupa.com is hosted elsewhere. We need to get the CNAME details from your registrar for silverschells.mysupadupa.com so that we can map silverschells.com correctly.

I hope that makes sense, I know that it can be quite confusing!

Getting very ticked off now, I asked this question 4 days ago, GOP has been very helpful and did everything he could. I bought my domain name through Yola, so asking you to help pointing my domain is the place to go and don't send me another email, saying post all under one topic, instead of emailing me that, why don't you just help me instead? that was dumb. Now, I am going to ask this again.

One more question, I received info on what to do, apparently I did it wrong.
it say to Ensure "CNAME" is selected from the drop-down box and enter the name and value of your CNAME record.

what is the name and what is the value?
This time read the whole topic, so I finally can be done with nonsense geeezzz!

Hi Sandra,

This is most definitely going around in circles.

If this doesn't resolve quickly, can I suggest that you take this screen shot of the DNS settings and send this image attached to an email to your supadupa people and ask them what specifically to enter into the two CNAME fields "Name" and "Value"

Sandra it is possible that they may not have an answer for this if their setup has been contracted out and they are working empirically.

If you click on this image it will expand to a readable size. Just Right Click and Save the image to your computer if you like.

Good luck.

Thank you Gop!! I was about to transfer my domain away from yola, because it's seems like they have no idea what they are talking about.

They keep saying, I hope that makes sense, I know that it can be quite confusing!

Thank You Gop!! got it all setup now! Yes, doing MTV Moive Awards is exciting and a lot of work, but when you love what you do, you don't mind the work. Also, next year I will also be doing the Golden Globes or Oscars or both.:)
This what I always tell everyone especially my kids:

Don’t follow the money, follow your passion. The thing is, if you follow the money, you’ll be running from one business opportunity to another, without any focus. When you follow your passion, you’ll be successful, in whatever craft you do, and you’ll become a leader in that field, no matter what is it. “follow your passion and the money will follow.”

I couldn't agree more Sandra. Great words!

I am delighted that you have this up and running and congrats to you for hanging in there through this trial.

Please announce your boutique when you are up and running so that we can follow your stardom through your creations into that world. You may also like to promote your site as a featured site when ready through Yola.

Hi Mark,

Here are the steps to add A records to your domain. This will allow you to point your domain to a new host.
