Hi, it just means that they can look up your domain and see your address, phone number and email. No body can register. This is called WHOIS. When you add on Private register, it keeps all of that info secret. But, no body can "register to your site" Like, here, I just did a WHOIS lookup on www.Yola.com and here it is: http://whois.domaintools.com/yola.com

Here is a screen shot of that info:

So, that is what it means.

I hope this gives you a a better understanding and I hope this helps!

Happy site building,
Nathan

Thanks for the screenshot, Nathan. Very helpful to illustrate what the WHOIS information looks like! :)

Hi Mert

When you purchase a domain from us or another domain registrar, you are legally required to provide personal details such as contact information. Nathan has given a really good explanation of this here (see his comment in this thread)

If you don't want those details to appear on public WHOIS, then domain privacy can be purchased for an additional fee - again this is standard practice.

If you buy a domain, others cannot register to your site. If you do not want to purchase domain privacy, then we can change the personal information to reflect our own but you will lose ownership of that domain and the ability to publish a site to that particular domain.

I hope this explains it in some more detail. If you have more questions about it, you can respond on this thread. Alternatively, you can email us at support@yola.com and we can help you further.

Thank you
Nazlie
