problem to link my domain name to yola website (the domain is pointing to yola IP)

I have problem to link my domain name to my yola website. I've followed instruction to add the A record in the zone file of my domain name and point to yola's IP 184.72.229.176, after that I've checked the whois information online to make sure the change has been updated. Now my domain name is pointing to yola but I just can't add it to my website, every time I tried to add it there is an error message says "Your domain is not pointed at Yola". Why is that?

Hi fanggu,

is the info above for the domain in question or the example of your other domain?

Hi fanggu,

The problem seems to be that there is only one A record whereas you need 2

One for the www. and one for the non-www.

The non-www is fine it's the www. that is not showing

I can see that you have used the CNAME to set the www but that isn't coming through on a domain zone records lookup.

Hi Gop,
Thx for the reply. I don't think that's the problem, firstly I tried to use 2 A records but it didn't work, then I used CNAME instead, technically it just point www back to non-www one, so it should be pointed at the same IP; Secondly, I used CNAME for prudentialegal.com.au, it works fine, so I don't think the CNAME caused this. Beside, when I type prudentialegal.net.au in the address bar, it opens a yola page below:

The domain is definitely pointed at the yola IP 184.72.229.176.

Hello fanggu

We have checked your A records, and they are both pointing correctly to Yola by now. Please note that it can take up to 48 hours for your changes to propagate on the internet. Maybe you should remove the CNAME and check if that makes it work.

Hi Stefan,

I understand that it can take up to 48 hours for DNS records to update, that's why I waited for it to point at the assigned IP before I tried to link it to my yola website. It just didn't work. Also, as shown on the image above, the TTL for the records are only 1 hour, so it shouldn't take more then 2 hours for my changes to propagate. I'm pretty sure it's not the DNS problem as I mentioned a few times before, the two domain names have identical DNS records, one of them works fine but the other one doesn't, if the problem is caused by the DNS settings, none of them should work.

As for as I can think of, it more likely that the yola system somehow can't pick up the correct DNS information of prudentialegal.net.au and keep returning the faulty error message every time when I try to add the domain to my yola website. Could you please help me to fix this instead of wasting time on the DNS settings. Thank you.

Hi fanggu,

I understand your frustration but we're confident that sorting out the DNS settings will resolve the problem. As long as they are set up properly our system will be able to pick up the domain. Unfortunately the screenshot you posted above is common when only one A record is set up. It's misleading and confusing and I am sorry about that. Can you please try resetting your DNS records by removing the CNAME and adding a second A record pointing to 184.72.229.176? If this set up does not work, we will be happy to investigate further.

Hello fanggu

When I look up your domain prudentialegal.net.au with and without www on kloth.net, I can see that both A records are correctly pointing to Yola's IP address by now. If you should still not be able to use your pointed domain with Yola, could you please provide your login e-mail or another URL you have published with Yola, so that we can track your Yola account and check? Thanks.

Finally!! The other URL is prudentialegal.com.au, which registered with the same company as prudentialegal.net.au and has exactly same DNS settings. There are four other domain point at the same yola website as well, they are prudentialega.com, prudentialega.net, prudentialega.info, prudentialega.org, and my login email is feiw@prudentialegal.com.
Thanks!

Hello fanggu

Am I understanding you right that the pointing of your domain prudentialegal.net.au is working now? Do you still need assistance with the other domain names you mentioned? You will just need to follow the exact same steps for pointing each of them to Yola. There is nothing that we had to do or fix for your first request, so it should be working.

Please let us know if you need more help, and we will gladly assist you.

...IT IS NOT working!!! It never worked. I keep trying to explain that it's nothing to do with the DNS settings on my side but none of you took my words! What I meant is that finally you are going to take some actions to actually solve the problem. Can you please fix it ASAP, thanks

Hello fanggu

We hadn't been able to take any actions before you gave us the necessary information to track your Yola account, and until now there doesn't seem to be problem with Yola in terms of pointing that would need a fix.

I have checked your Yola account and can confirm that the pointing isn't working yet when trying to add the domain to one of your websites. This isn't unusual and has happened to me as well when I tried to point a domain from GoDaddy to Yola. The TTL given in the account with your external provider doesn't necessarily mean that changes will really be effective after 1 hour. In my case it took more than 24 hours to be effective although my TTL was on half an hour.

So at this stage I'd suggest to wait until 48 hours have passed after you made the last changes (added the second A record and removed the CNAME). After the 48 hours are over, please make sure to clear your cache and cookies before you check again if it is working. If it still isn't, please come back to us, and we will investigate further.

Thank you for your patience.

Hi fanggu,

I just wanted to hop in and let you know that I had been able to access your account yesterday from the information you provided, and while it's possible that allowing more time might resolve the matter, I have reached out to a member of our team to help us look into what else might be causing the problem in the meantime. I'm very sorry for the confusion and back and forth. We will follow up with you here, but in the case that allowing more time does sort the issue, please do let us know.

Hello fanggu

My apologies for saying we didn't have enough info to track your account, I was wrong about that. I checked your account this morning and found out that the pointing is unfortunately not working yet. We have DNS experts in our team looking into this issue, and they also say that we should give it a little more time for settings to propagate because it can sometimes take longer. They will check again tomorrow and update you on this thread.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience this may be causing you. Thank you for working through this with us, and I hope the problem will be sorted soon.

48 hours has been passed and IT'S STILL NOT WORKING!

I believe that we can all agree it's noting to do with my DNS settings now, so please let me know when it can be fixed and what causes this problem, thanks!

Just little suggestion to Yola, stop treat your customers like they are idiots and pay more attention to listen to them. I don't want to waste another 4 days just to convence you guys to fix a problem of your own.

(Stefan and Laura, sorry for being grumpy, it's nothing personal)

Hello fanguu,

I do apologize for this. I certainly understand your frustration and it does appear that you have done all you could do to ensure that the A records are pointing to Yola correctly.

Please accept our apologies for making you feel like an idiot. This was not our intent but I can understand how you felt this way.

We don't want to waste your time anymore. I have emailed our DNS specialist to have a look at this and make this a priority.

Many thanks for your patience and for your willingness to work with us.

By keep repeating the same thing won't fix the problem, I know the domain points at Yola correctly, I've been telling you this since the beginning. According to Stefan's last comment, your specialist should check this 2 days ago, now 2 more days are wasted, I need to know how many more days do I have to wait for this to be fixed and once it's down, I'd like to know the cause of it.

Thank you!

Hi fanggu

I do apologize for the problem on this issue and for not resolving it sooner. It required the assistance of an engineer as there was a technical issue on the publishing side. They have now fixed the problem and your domain is published to your site.

Our apologies for the inconvenience.

Hi,

Yola don't use name servers.

You need to setup 2 A records to point your domain to Yola's IP 184.72.229.176.

Please see the tutorial: Publishing to a Domain you already own

If this doesn't resolve the issue please respond on here.

thank you for reply, of course both a records point to 184.72.229.176 that is why when accessing my domain says "your domain is pointed to yola" The problem according to the domain administrator is that the dns server of yola when trying to access my domain returns wrong ip while other name servers in USA and elswere respond back with 184.72.229.176 >Yola has to check if in their namersver used has old dns records or similar problems.
Any help is appreciated 9 days without website.,
thank you

Hallo again ,
thank you for your trying to help,
as you can see the A records are ok the site when called for comes out yola (you are pointed to yola) and what you send me shows the name servers that serve the domain name like all domains have but the pointing is there. I dont understand why YOLA doesnt try to find a solution since it is obvious the problem is on their side like in other similar cases like the above. I am a new bronze customer wanting to continue after the month is through but since i switched only problems and no solutions whatsoever.(10 days website off the air) Very fustrating and not professional.(send already 3 emails 0 replies)

Any help is welcomed,

s.l.

I'm glad to hear two other customers have exactly the same problem as I have reported with our site and their problems have finally been resolved. Since this thread does not tell how to resolve the issue, I assume it is a setting on your side. Please address our issue as well! The domain is bethelparkersburg.org.

Hi David,

We realize this is frustrating, but I can assure you we will continue to investigate your case until it is completed to your satisfaction. The customers above did experience a scenario similar to yours however the cases above were unrelated to each other and as of yet the cause of your problem is unclear. Nazlie will be in touch with you on your Catch 22 thread.
