Problems transferring domain name

It looks like I am having problems transferring my domain from Hostmonster to Yola. I am waiting for a reply from Godaddy because I think my settings are out of date regarding my email address. We'll see what happens. I am so confused with this. It sounds pretty straight forward but for whatever reason I need to change my email address with Godaddy in order for them to send me the correct authorization code or at least I think that is what I need to do...

Hi there Randy,

Unfortunately it is not currently possible to transfer your domain to Yola so that we are your domain registrar. We will be offering this option in the near future.

To publish your site to your own domain, you will need to edit the settings on your domain so that it points to Yola. You will be able to find information on these links:

Publish to a domain you already own

Using a Domain Name not purchased from Yola .

If your domain registrar does not allow you to create or edit the A Records on your domain, you can use the services of ZoneEdit. There is more information available about ZoneEdit on this link.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Jeremy!

I guess I am confused by all the players.

1. I registered my domain name with Godaddy about two years ago.
2. My hosting provider is Hostmonster (I still want to keep them as my hosting provider).
3.I want to be able to use my domain name (www.mcran.com) so that it points to my new web site I created with Yola.

This is basically it. Just not quite sure how to prceed with this. I'm sure it is not complicated but for some reason I just can't wrap my head around it.....yet. :)

This is what I see when I go into Godaddy. I guess I am just afraid that if I make a change here it will cut me off from Hostmonster where all of the files I use on my web site reside.

Hi there Randy,
Your domain host or configuration shouldn't make a difference to your Hostmonster account. As long as you have pointed your domain to Yola correctly your site should work with it.

Thanks Jeremy,

This is the way I see it. Godaddy-Hostmonster-Yola. So I would have to make the change from Hostmonster because Godaddy is feeding Hostmonster so to speak and Hostmonster is feeding Yola with the right IP address for all this to work. I just need to be able to get a special authorization code from Godaddy that I need to use with Hostmonster so that I can make the changes with Hostmonster. I'm pretty sure this is how it all works . I'll post back with what happens. Seems so simple to do.

Thanks Jeremy. This is what I love about Yola. I thought that Rapidweaver had the best support forum on the planet but now I am rethinking that in a big way.

I am feeling more comfortable with Yola mainly because their support is so outstanding. I don't say that lightly having worked in the support group for Nortel Networks for many years.

Keep up the great work. This user REALLY appreciates it!

Thanks so much! We do our best and it really means a lot when people express appreciation. We also somehow managed to find the nicest, most helpful bunch of customers on the planet, and the quality of this forum is largely thanks to them. We hope to have you around for a long time. It is great to have a new member who is so active and brings a fresh perspective!

Monique,

If this service lives up to all of my expectations as a customer, you will see me around for a long time. Like I said before, customer service that delivers and is not merely lip service means the world to me. There are some features I would like to see Yola incorporate but those things will happen. It is the service that really (at least to me), displays the core and the goals and aspirations behind the company.

Like they say, first impressions are so important and my first impression has been a very good experience.

Now if I can only get my domain issue resolved I will be all set.

I think I am going to be OK now. After being totally confused with all of this, I called GoDaddy support. We both brought up the Yola support page on Godaddy and walked through the instructions. See enclosed for the result. Does this look like it will work? The support person (Aaron), told me it could take up to a few hours for the change to propagate properly.

That looks good, but you also need an A record with the Host "www" and the IP address: 208.75.208.172. You can get this by clicking "Add new A record" and then creating it the same way you did for the the hostname "@" Glad GoDaddy support could help you out!

I just called Godaddy support and they said that everything looks fine. The explained that were it says www with the @ symbol, that it points back to 208.75.208.172 and that there should not be any problems. See attached. I also renewed my domain with them for another two years.
