I have a Friend who have purchased a domain name from a freelance web developer.

BUt the freelance developer can't be reached or has been not been responding.

NOw, we want that domain name to be transferred to YOLa. The domain name was registered just this March2011,( NOw it is May 2011).

but the freelance registered it. we only have a Password for the Joomla Administrator account to update the content using the given Joomla template.

The domain name consist of my friend's Last name ( unique words).

HOw can we know where the domain name is registered?

Is it is also possible to redirect someone who has type that old domain name to the newly registered domain name by Yola purchased by our own credit card?

Thank You!

You can find out domain registration information by going to http://www.whois.net/ and typing in the required information. WhoIs is a public database of domain registration information.

Hello Sme Outsource,

As Peach has already mentioned, www.who.is can be used to find the details of the owner of the domain name.
You can re-direct users to your Yola website.

Please use this code:

<meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" content="0; url=http://www.yourdomain.com/index.html">

I shall not explain the code for you.

<meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" = This is standard, this tells the browser to re-direct the page.

content="0" = This is the amount of time before the page re-directs. Time in seconds. It is recommended that you allow about 5 seconds before re-directing so that you will have a chance to edit the page from within the Sitebuilder.

url="link here"> = This is the URL you would like to page to re-direct to.

Hope this helps,

The WHOIS database is a great place to find out who a registrar is and who the owner of a domain name is. If you do find this information out, to transfer the domain to Yola you will need access to the account with the registrar to go through the transfer process. So I am thinking you will at some point need to get in touch with the owner of the domain name to get access to the account.

If you do get access to the account and can begin the transfer process here is a link for how to do this: Transfer domain name to Yola. If you do transfer the domain to Yola you can can choose the new domain from Yola as the primary so that the people who use the old domain (that was transferred) will be redirected to the new one. Here is a link on how to do this: Assigning domains and creating a primary.

If you have any further questions please let us know.

Kind Regards,

I have just Looked into the WHO.is

and it says:

Whois Server: whois.PublicDomainRegistry.com
Referral URL: http://www.PublicDomainRegistry.com
Whois Server: whois.PublicDomainRegistry.com
Referral URL: http://www.PublicDomainRegistry.com
Status: clientTransferProhibited

it says something like client transfer prohibited, does this prevent me from transferring it to yola?

Hi Sme Outsource,
Before you transfer the domain to Yola, you need to unlock it. If you have not yet unlocked it, you will see that message.

Take a look at the link Emmy provided, on how to transfer your domain. It includes all the steps you need to go through, including unlocking your domain.

Please let us know if you encounter any problems!
